We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Abdul-Raheem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candace, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
It has not changed yet. I believe that it will change when the time is right! Never rush your dreams!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Outside of my 9-5 cubicle, I act and do model print work, sometimes I even creative direct shoots behind the scenes. I’m not that big yet… but based on my work ethic, I’m excited how everything unfolds for me later on in my career, the day I’m finally able to do what I love and it’ll cover all of my finances without needing a day job. I’m not rushing for a big break at all, I believe I’m still in my learning stage. Chasing my dreams and finding different ways to feed my inner child got me to where I am today, through every good, bad, and ugly moment. I made a vision board when I was 14 , and I unknowingly achieved everything on it within the last 10 years. I’ve learned over the years to never rush anything and don’t look in other lanes, mine is customized the way it’s supposed to be. Everything will always work out in God’s timing. Doing this along with my 9-5 isn’t for the weak (I look at it as my foundation) , but my dreams motivate me to keep myself going. I want everyone to know it is okay to still chase your dreams no matter how old you are. It may be challenging, but it is worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I would want us to take a stroll around Atlantic station, shop around if we want, drive to “Bar 44” for a lemon drop on a chill Friday evening. If I really wanna turn up?! If my friend wants here to Soul, Jazz and R&B music , I would take us to “Reverb Rooftop” (the city view is worth seeing). Now If they want little bit hip hop too? I would slide us to “Café Circa” (they have a rooftop too) or “Escobar” on Peter’s street. Finally, anything just simply fun with a twist of tequila…I would give “Your 3rd Spot” a try!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big major thank you to “The Crash Class” too, instructed by Sean Freeman! After taking just 1 course, I’ve been getting booked way more than ever before! I love learning new things and what to sharpen. I no longer feel lost about what I want for my acting career. Huge blessing in disguise I was not expecting.

I also would like to thank my wonderful parents, sister, and my supportive close friends, that push me to be the person I am today. The last person I would like to thank (that will always be first) … The one I’m not sure how I would keep going without him, God. The way he moves mountains, I’ll always be grateful for. I’ve been coming a long way.
