We had the good fortune of connecting with Can Cakes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Can, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Can Cakes was born out of a shared passion for global flavors, innovation, and sustainability. As a group of four co-founders from diverse backgrounds, we each bring a unique perspective influenced by our different cultures and experiences. This naturally led us to take an international approach to desserts, curating a selection of flavors that reflect the best of what the world has to offer. Over time, this vision expanded to include international coffee drinks and single-origin beans, creating a well-rounded experience for our customers.

Beyond the flavors, we saw an opportunity to address dessert waste in the industry. Traditional desserts often have short shelf lives, leading to unnecessary waste. With our unique can packaging, we extend freshness without the need for added preservatives, allowing more people to enjoy high-quality, artisanal desserts with convenience and longevity.

But above all, the greatest part of this journey has been working together as friends and collaborating with like-minded people who share our vision. Can Cakes isn’t just about desserts—it’s about community, creativity, and bringing people together through a shared love of food and culture.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Can Cakes, we’ve built something truly unique—a luxury dessert brand that blends global flavors, innovation, and sustainability, all packaged in our signature transparent cans. What sets us apart is our international approach to desserts and coffee, inspired by the diverse backgrounds of our four co-founders. We come from different parts of the world, and together, we’ve created a menu that celebrates global flavors while prioritizing quality, convenience, and sustainability.

One of the things we’re most proud of is how our packaging innovation helps solve a real problem in the food industry: dessert waste. Traditional baked goods often have a short shelf life, leading to unnecessary waste. Our can packaging extends freshness without additional preservatives, allowing people to enjoy high-quality, artisanal desserts for longer while also reducing food waste. Plus, our cans are BPA-free and fully recyclable when cleaned, ensuring that indulgence doesn’t come at the expense of sustainability.

Getting to where we are today wasn’t easy—it took countless hours of research, trial and error, and persistence. From perfecting our recipes and sourcing high-quality ingredients to finding the right retail and market partners, every step required dedication. One of our biggest challenges was educating consumers about our concept—a dessert in a can isn’t something people see every day! But through in-person events, tastings, and collaborations with like-minded businesses, we’ve been able to introduce people to Can Cakes in a way that feels exciting and approachable.

Along the way, we’ve learned some key lessons:

Community is everything. The support we’ve received from local markets, retail store partners, and our customers has been invaluable.

Stay adaptable. Running a business means constantly evolving—whether it’s adjusting flavors based on feedback, expanding into coffee drinks and beans, or improving our operations
.
Passion fuels perseverance. There were tough moments when things didn’t go as planned, but our love for what we do (and for working together as a team) kept us moving forward.

At the core of our brand is the belief that food brings people together. Can Cakes isn’t just about delicious desserts—it’s about sharing cultures, creating memorable experiences, and building a community around a love for international flavors. We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to keep growing, innovating, and connecting with even more people along the way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta, I’d make sure they experienced the city’s best food, culture, and nature. We’d start with brunch at Phat Yuka, a BeltLine walk, and lunch at El Minero in Ponce City Market, grabbing Can Cakes from Savi Provisions along the way. Dinner at Okiboru would be the perfect kickoff.

Exploring MLK National Historical Park and the High Museum of Art would be followed by lunch at The BEP Corner and dinner at Le Colonial.

A full nature day at Gibbs Gardens would be next, taking in the scenic landscapes, seasonal blooms, and peaceful trails before heading back for hotpot at Chubby Cattle. That evening, we’d unwind with a speakeasy experience at Red Phone Booth for an old-school, intimate atmosphere.

For local gems, we’d do breakfast at Kelly’s Market, shop Little Five Points, visit Ebisu Japanese Lifestyle Store, and enjoy dinner at Umi, indulging in world-class sushi before slipping into their secret sister bar for an exclusive, hidden experience.

Another outdoor adventure day would include a hike at Sweetwater Creek, lunch at Krog Street Market, and a sunset visit to Stone Mountain Park to take in the views.

To close the trip, we’d visit Avondale Farmers Market, browse O4W Market, and have lunch at one of Tony’s Chicago Beef pop ups before heading to Yellow River Park for some hiking. Lastly, head home for a steak dinner on the Kamado Grill, enjoying a great meal in the best company.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our journey with Can Cakes wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of the Metro Atlanta community. We’ve been fortunate to work alongside some amazing retail store partners who have helped us grow and refine our craft, including Wagaya Groceries, Ebisu Japanese Lifestyle Store, Grant and Candler Park Markets, all the Savi Provisions locations, Frazie’s Meat Market, and O4W Market. Their dedication to quality and community has played a huge role in our success. And of course, there are many more incredible partners not listed here who have also supported our journey, and we’re beyond grateful for each one of them.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the markets and platforms that have been instrumental in our growth, including Chefs Market at Pullman Yards, Avondale Farmers Market, and DoorDash – DashMart. These partnerships have allowed us to connect with more customers, expand our reach, and build lasting relationships with other passionate entrepreneurs and food lovers.

On the business side, books like Alex Hormozi’s $100M Offers and Will Guidara’s Unreasonable Hospitality have been invaluable in shaping our approach—helping us refine our business strategies, elevate customer experience, and stay committed to delivering value in everything we do.

We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey—whether through mentorship, collaboration, or simply supporting us along the way. Can Cakes is more than just a business; it’s a reflection of the amazing community that surrounds us.
