We had the good fortune of connecting with Camilo Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camilo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to merge architecture (my profession) and art in one place. I understood that my work is an extension of interior design so I wanted to do work and show it in a more professional way. Making works that respond also to that type of interior spaces, which through my DNA and my artistic lenaguje will provide those places with a sober, exclusive and luxurious atmosphere.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel lucky to run into graffiti at a young age, this gave me something to hold on to from a very young age and develop it to what it is today. That for me is the most important thing, to have found my proposition since I was 13 years old, not many are fortunate to have his direction or direction clear, so I would say that this is a blessing for me and my colleagues.
I think the path is not easy in any area of life, but that’s what makes it really interesting. The obstacles and difficulties are what make you strong, today you look back and understand because certain things happened that in the past you did not understand, but that gives you experience and maturity, so I think it is important to be patient and have very clear vision, it’s easy to deflect when you’re not completely sure what you want.
Camilo GS is a person that any dreamer could identify with, I have only been and remain a person committed to what you want, still, things do not always go the way we want, but I have tried to stay, putting my desires before my fears. The work of Camilo Gs more than aesthetic values, is an invitation to excel and to take your mentality to the limit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am very fond of eating in different places, so my recommendation would start there hahaha. There is a well-known place in my city Ibagué, its name is Juntas, it is a rural area in which you find different places with varied cuisine all on the road that takes you to the snowy Tolima, it is a quiet place, with a natural environment, surrounded by greenery and the Combeima River on one side, I think this is one of the places I enjoy most.
Finally I would recommend a park by the sector of the Vergel, near the Mariposario, is an extension of a green valley with many trees and rocks, ideal to relax and miss the stresses of the day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Currently I would thank my partner and my daughter, who is inspiration for my life. I am grateful to my select group of friends who encourage me and always give me their best energy with what I do.
But at the same time I think that I feel immensely grateful with situations and processes in our art journey, they are the ones who shape us and make us grow as artists and human beings. We all have to go through that journey that brings out the worst and the best in us. Having the clear vision and goal helps to overcome the challenges and see them as experiences of the road and not as a definitive failure.
