We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Cullers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most important factor behind my success, is the spirit of gratitude. I believe that when one lives in the spirit of Gratitude they live with purpose and reason. They give without seeking a reward. They love on others just because and they are at peace with themselves and the world. The spirit of Gratitude is the true road to freedom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally, I am the owner and founder of Empower Mentorship and Martial Arts. My school provides a place where children and Adults can have a platform to learn about themselves and grow into their greatest versions while learning martial arts. I founded my school in 2018 and since then I have partnered with multiple schools and educational institutions such as Georgia State University, Spelman College to provide martial arts for young people across Metro Atlanta. At Spelman College I serve as the Professor of Self Defense and Boxing. I provide the students there with life applicable techniques and philosophies to take with them and apply to their everyday life. As far as Empower goes, we have multiple locations from the Pittsburg community (@FitSquad Studios) to Smyrna (@Atlantaperformancelab) I also have over 20 private contracts that range from elementary, middle and high schools and institutions. Our kids love the programs and seek to continuously grow. When I’m not teaching I’m consulting or fulfilling my speaking engagements request.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many great spots in the City first I would bring them to one of my partner gyms, either Atlanta Performance Lab @atlantaperformancelab owned by Lauren and Jamal or Fitsquad Studios @fitsquadstudios owned by Moses. Two great gyms with phenomenal owners that I have come to consider as good friends of mine. Then we get down to business at my gym Empower Mentorship and Martial Arts so that we can train and break a sweat doing martial arts. Then, since I am an artist I would love to take my friends to one of the great artistic staples in Atlanta for some great music, Apache Cafe, Cafe 992, St. James Live and the Havanna Lounge in Sandy Springs. For food, Man there are tons of places….I personally like Zabalees which is a Thai Food place, Top Spice or Bakaris Pizza Lounge.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Empower Mentorship and Martial Arts Family aka Empower MMA. I started the martial arts school in 2018 due to the lack of attention that students of color were getting compared to their white counterparts in the realm of martial arts. I feel that all students should receive the same treatment and fairness when being taught martial arts, not just one specific group over the other. Since then it has developed into a large community of loving, caring and beautiful individuals that are on their own journey to self discovery and that come in all shades, sizes and colors. I also would like to shout out Atlanta Performance Lab and FitSquad studios for being phenomenal partners in progressing our communities to higher grounds. Save Institute, for the phenomenal job they are doing with their young men as well.  Spelman College for allowing my expertise to be shared with the wonderful students attending that university.
