We had the good fortune of connecting with Calvin & Lovelene Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Calvin & Lovelene, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Our work life balance has changed drastically! Since business has started, we learned to appreciate our down time, especially with our family. Prior to opening, we were able to just get up and do whatever we wanted, when we wanted. Calvin was already used to going to the studio and producing music for major artist as well as teaching production courses to students, so the balance was so easy then. However, we’ve had to learn to put everything that wasn’t a priority on the back burner to make sure the family and businesses were put first.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Calvin is always trying to approach his music in such an unorthodox way. He loves diving into areas where others haven’t even thought of. His proudest moment is being nominated for a Grammy with J Cole for his 3X platinum selling album titled 2014 Forest Hills Drive. This past August, the single Love Yourz (produced by Calvin) has sold 1 million copies worldwide. Not only does Calvin produce music for artist such as Fabolous, Rick Ross and Ty Dolla $, but he has been engineering and producing my podcast called Girl God Therapy which is currently on all streaming platforms. Girl God Therapy discusses topics that focus on mental health, womanhood/motherhood, black female entrepreneurship and spirituality. We’re excited about bringing our listeners season 2 and we’re so grateful of the constant outpouring love and support we receive from everyone. Together Calvin and I have learned that it’s important to uphold one another and stick together as a team. We can’t rely on everyone else when it comes to our seeing our vision come into fruition. When overcoming challenges, no man gets left behind! Meaning “we walk into this together, we walk out of this together”. Any issue we face is handled as a partnership and not individually. When people encounter us, we want them to know whether it may be music, podcasting, restaurants or investing, everything we do comes from a good place with great intentions. When we service our artists, listeners, or customers they are always treated like family.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start off eating at our new little baby (lol) Taste & Sea. Everyone loves our Shrimp and Grits and our pan seared Salmon. Our guest could never go wrong with those meals! Our next stop would be Spruce Street Harbor Park. Its a fun pier to be on year round. During the warm months you could relax on a hammock with your friends or during the colder months you could go ice skating.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Calvin and I would love to thank our family and friends who are always there to support us. We appreciate his uncle Michael who not only gives us business advice but also spiritual guidance. We’re grateful for everyone who play major roles in our lives. We love you all so much!
