We had the good fortune of connecting with Calah “Cae” Shields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Calah “Cae”, what matters most to you?
One principle I value most, is allowing myself to show up, as me, for every occurrence, It is a decision that I have to make everyday. Showing up as Cae, to me, means trusting God, preparing my net, polishing my approach and allowing my pace to be my pace. These above all things, help to keep me well rounded and my mind focused. Pre Pressure Haus. I found myself saying I could if I wanted to a lot , in light of ventures , and resting in the idea that I could alone. One day that wasn’t enough for me. I had to actually try, work and trust the process. I had to show up as Cae, doing what I was created for using what was in me or what I had in reach. I attribute this principle to being one of the propelling pillars of Pressure Haus. to date. An authentic approach is essential when pacing to the vision, you have to allow yourself to be who you are.
What should our readers know about your business?
Pressure Haus. is a Haus for all the tastemakers, influencers and innovators ready to do things their way. We are a brand that prides ourselves on taking things to the Next Level. At Pressure Haus. we recognize and emphasize that energy does transfer, since all of our creations are handcrafted and will be worn by our Pressure Pushers and Shiéc. Girls, we do not take this lightly; as a result each piece is intentionally created with love and big energy so that when our clients put it on they feel that same energy. We are working to create an era of communities that connect. To me Pressure Haus. is more than just fashion; it’s bigger than that. PH. is another avenue to create experiences with. I want to expose the black community to many different facets of luxury in life that they can also customize, bring home and put on when they want to experience it again. What I am most proud of with my brand is that we encourage embracing who you are and doing things your way- were not worried about being the “next” anybody but instead focusing on walking into who we were created and built to be. Pressure Haus. is an expanding haus. and honestly we’ve only come this far because of God’s grace and direction, I truly believe I was created by a creator to be a creator and that is something that keeps me centered when everything picks up or becomes stagnant. Things sometimes, are surprisingly easy to me and other times overly difficult. However, despite the climate of the level I may be at I continually remind myself, “you were created for this, you were built for this.” A huge lesson I have learned along the way is that when running your business it’s really what you say “no” to that sets you apart. I’ve had to say no to fashion shows, collaborations, designs, anything that would/ will take us off path and not be a true representation of what we stand for and how we do things. There is the Pressure and Shiéc. Standard that we stand on to get to the vision, if God says no it’s a no; even if I did want to do it, I know in the end He has something better in store and I trust that when all else fails. It’s an active decision you have to make to pivot with principle. I read a quote once that said “Not everything that calls your name is for you,” I felt that. What I want people to know about us is that this is still only the beginning for Pressure Haus.= Pressure + Haus of Shiéc. we are expanding and constantly rising to the Next Level.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend is coming in town Pressure Haus. would take care of all her fit needs but she then would have to have The Luxxe Experience (IG @theluxxeexperience_) and get her hair slayed by my sis Amaiya Rowell. Then we can go do a Bestie shoot at The Experience Studios (IG @expstudiosatl) with @Eppsshotme my cousin 1820 Creationz (@1820creationz) would create the set design for us. After the shoot it would be time to eat and what kind of CAU Alumnus would I be if I didn’t take her to grab a bite from the legendary Slutty Vegan? Then she and I would go back to my house to just chill and vibe. During that week some other spots we would have to visit would be The Garden Room, The Atlanta Botanical Garden, Ponce City Market, SCAD FASH Museum, Yebo Beach Haus, Upside down house and more just a week of vibes and experiences. If we want to go out out we’d go to OAK or if we wanted to go out and still chill we’d go to Escobar or The Painted Duck. In Atlanta theres a mood for everything it just depends on what your vibe is.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Nanna, Deborah Moss, she really is the reason that I sew and am in Atlanta. My Nanna was the first one to invest into me with sewing. When I was in middle school, noticing that I wouldn’t stop reconstructing my clothes using what I could find around the house, my Nanna bought me a Simple Singer Sewing Machine. I think she just wanted me to stop using hot glue guns and staples- looking back that was probably more risky than I realized at the time. My Nanna was also a designer she held fashion shows and even created two of my sisters prom dresses, although she is no longer with us, knowing that she seen this light in me, that early in age is really special to me and fuels my why.
My Parents, Mia and E.G Shields Jr., have been entrepreneurs my entire life, one of their businesses is EGS, a successful Custom Tailoring Company in business in for over 20+ years , growing up seeing the world of entrepreneurship really exposed me to the mindset of business and the power of presentation. I seen the impact of helping people to see themselves and say thats’ me, Its funny how now I help to do that same very thing.
