We had the good fortune of connecting with C.K. Alexander Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi C.K., we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy is knowing that I have the ability to be a blessing to others. Although I love treating myself to a spa day, hanging out with great friends and spending quality time with my husband and my family, making others feel loved and good about themselves brings me so much joy. My most memorable happy moments are the moments when I’ve been a part of making someone else’s day.

What should our readers know about your business?
Love Ink is a creative writing service that assists writers of all levels to move through whatever is blocking them—internally or externally. We strive to help our clients develop a personal writing practice that allows them to grow both on and off the page. I started my company in 2008 when I was looking for a creative way to help others. As a journalist, I was the go-to-friend for all writing needs for my friends and family members, which led me to create a business from what people come to me for naturally. Throughout the years, my business has transitioned and we now solely focus on helping others to create a personal writing practice and how to incorporate creative writing in your daily life as a form of self-care. We have also recently launched our first greeting card collection, The Sisterhood Card Collection, which features 5 cards that have inspirational and motivational messages that were designed to celebrate and uplift women. I hope to create new collections that focus on self-love, self-care, love, friendship, and more.

I have learned so many lessons as a business owner. The biggest lesson I learned was to not be afraid of change. I wanted to move into the greeting card space and I knew I had the words to share but I was worried my audience wouldn’t accept this offering. What I learned was that because I was passionate about it, I gained so much support from existing customers and gained new customers.  Sometimes stepping out on faith and doing what feels right and what excites you is the best thing you can do for your business.

I want the world to know that Love Ink is here to help. I want to uplift and inspire others to live their best lives. I love that I have the opportunity to help others deepen their relationship with themselves and with others through writing. It really is a powerful thing to see someone come to realize their full potential and knowing you played a small part in helping them soar to higher heights is really rewarding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends know that when they come to town, it’s time to find the good eats.

In Manhattan, I love Flute Champagne bar in midtown (it’s a great spot for after dinner drinks with a chic speakeasy vibe), I also love Row House in Harlem (everything is good there, especially the mac and cheese trio!), and if I am in the mood for a picnic with a view, I’d take my friends to Ross Dock Picnic Area in Edgewater, N.J., which has an epic view of the George Washington bridge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be able to have a full-time job and a thriving business if it wasn’t for my support system. First and foremost, I have the most supportive husband, Jimmy, who is not only my biggest cheerleader, but he also comes alongside me to fill in the gaps and help me to stay focused on my dreams. I also want to thank my family. My parents have always been my inspiration. I come from a family of entrepreneurs who instilled in me the importance of creating a legacy of service through the work that I do and the businesses that I create. Lastly, I want to thank my sister-circle and tribe that keep me lifted and laughing in our group chats. I am so grateful for their encouragement, support and their many talents.
