We had the good fortune of connecting with C Flux Sing and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C Flux, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I always looked at risk taking as jumping off a dang cliff!! I have always contemplated and tried to calculate my steps but that doesn’t work all the time for everybody. Sometimes it’s just going with the feeling. The best results from taking risks in my life has been the ones that was very intensional. The times I said to my self, with conviction that I was making this decision with a vision of making it work. And it worked. Then it became about how I wanted to work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In brief, my art is to offer my perspective of clarity between subject matters, experience and environmental effects on communities. Especially the Black Community. As well as to suggest other possibilities or ways of viewing some of these same matters.Self growth and worth. Inspiration. Love, care and honesty between us. My style is distinct but it can use some tweaking. HAHAHA! I’d like to think my concepts are but isn’t much knew under the sun. Just how you mix them up. Prayfully folks can point me out in a crowd. So far, I’m really of my first solo Art Show I dropped last year into early this year called, “Heavy Clouds”. I have been working on this for years and to finally see it come to fruition as well as be successful was grand and humbling. Right now, I’m excited about some personal hurdles that are on the way to becoming achievements soon. Some things material and in self growth that I always wanted to accomplish. Prayerfully, by the time this gets out, they will be complete!! Like FOOOOOOOSH!! To get where I am professionally today took a lot of head bumps, learning patience, A lot of luck, skill, technique, great relationships and being my unique self. Everybody’s path is different. I wish I was a bunch more thorough but that is something I’m still learning. There are results that require a certain energy and intension behind manifesting it, at times I didn’t have it. I’m lucky and really blessed to cause a positive effect with just being me. It’s not always a given tho. It wasn’t so easy in the later parts of my life. It really takes some Honesty and truthfulness with myself that helps me to make better decisions about my career and path. There was a time in the last 4 years where I looked at my life and business situation and realized I had everything I asked for with out putting in 100%. Hell, even 55%. It didn’t look or feel the way I wanted it to either. that’s where the honesty and truthfulness comes in. I started making changes and digging deep into my self to figure out the real reasons of why as well as the perspective to change them. My spiritual system Ifa helped me a lot with that. Major shouts to my Babalawo and Iyanifa for their guidance.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Moms! Catherine Singleton. I want to give it to her because of her suggestion of where I could attend High School(High School of Art& Design), it changed the trajectory of my life and career. My Aunt Mary, who was the first to commission a piece of mine. I want shout to my brotha Jax(BinkisRecs) who helped me to laugh at my own sensitivity. My brotha Goldi Gold who suggested doing our first duo art show which started me as a painter. My brotha Miya Bailey who hosted my first art show. PNB Nation who was the first clothing company I worked with and for(A childhood dream). Bobbito who put out Binkis Recs first piece of music on wax. My brotha Mister Soul who constantly reminds my of charging my worth and Power Haus Creative and Project Manager Ash who is leading the charge in some of my new projects. So many more brothas and sistas that have helped me grow as a person and still do.
