We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron Wiggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Byron, what do you attribute your success to?
Success- I had never thought about getting behind the microphone until my wife Janine told me one day I should try podcasting as a new hobby in late 2018. Initially, I was skeptical but agreed to try it along with the new microphone she had bought me. I downloaded recording software and then began to record everyday life situations and jokes with my dad Eddie and my cousin Tyrone in January of 2019. The episodes started off as a pastime for us to spend time but quickly became serious as I discovered that I was really good behind the microphone along with Tyrone. Dad would join every so often, but Tyrone and I became serious and spoke of success. Over the course of 2019, our episodes landed us on IHeartRadio along with a host of other platforms and we were actually seeking corporate sponsorship. AlabamaRadio was prepared to expand until August of 2020 where I learned that Tyrone (cousin and best friend) succumbed to Covid-19. I felt alone and did not record again for months. I eventually pulled myself together and began to record and go hard in his honor. I now dedicate the entire show and success to him which has made me and the brand continue. As of today, corporate sponsorship is still an option for the brand if the opportunity arises and I owe it all to Tyrone. It is my responsibility to continue to do it for him…
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I personally believe that life itself is always a risk from the moment you take your first breath, but it’s the factors that you experience in life that intensify it. For example, in society today, everyone wants to be politically correct and quick to admonish others about their perceptions and the way that they do things. I’m extremely outspoken which comes with considerable risk, but I live my life day for day in hopes that the risks and experiences I’ve come across help others, therefore establishing a foundation of solidarity that we can all accept and understand. AlabamaRadio has become a huge part of my life and helps me express what others are afraid to reveal because of risk. As stated before, life is a risk that will eventually end one day, so why not turn up and get the best of what’s in front of you? That’s what AlabamaRadio is all about and will continue to be the voice of the underdog in such a sensitive environment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would probably go to the Gulf Shores area and kick it. Nice beach, great seafood.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my wife, Janine Wiggins (Founder of Resumes By Neen) for encouraging me to stay consistent and supporting AlabamaRadio. Without Jesus and my wife, it wouldn’t be so.
