We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea behind my own business came after graduating from college. After college, I wasn’t able to really get a job so I was working at a restaurant when I noticed one of my best regular clients had his own business, so I asked him questions. Most of it was about how he managed to do it; from there I started studying on my down time and that’s how I started dabbling into running or starting and learning how to run a business and how to actually grow and get clients.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
No, it wasn’t easy but there is a direct relationship between where we are now and all the failures we have taken on and off consistently in a repeated amount of time. To understand what I mean by that, I mean that where we have come today is a result of failing a lot, taking many chances, and trying to discover more and more every day, and what sets us apart from others is that we do things in a completely different way.
The things that set us apart are our team and the lesson I’ve learned along the way from my parents and them (the team) it’s to always love what you do. Our culture reflects that and is something to be very proud of as far as everything our team stands for. We had a challenging journey, but the team that we have made everything so much easier knowing we can always count on them, and the other team members will be able to help until everything is done. Another lesson will be that when you have a great team that shares the same core values as yourself, you aren’t going on the journey alone.
Our strategy for overcoming many of the challenges we’ve faced is to always keep a clear view of our goals. Because if we know what we are looking for on a macro level, then we know where we want to go in terms of our destination, so in case of a detour, that could be a problem or issue to overcome, we will be able to continue and to consistently move forward.
If there’s one thing that I would love the world to know about us and our brand it would be that we’re super passionate about making an impact in our client’s lives, and revolutionizing the industry, and really all that is talked of just having a legacy, so it’s much bigger than just running a business. That’s what really keeps us exciting and motivated every day to overcome challenges on a daily basis, by being persistent and consistent every single day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are based out of Houston but I’ve been currently spending a lot of time in Medellin, Colombia. So if a friend of mine came to visit me here what we would do is we would definitely go out to eat a lot. There’s an area called Provenza that’s really good and has really good places to eat and we will definitely get some food. In Medellin, Colombia they are known for the infusion of Peruvian food mixed with Asians, which is a great taste combination that I haven’t really seen across the world that much. We would definitely want to go to a town called Guatapé, it’s about an hour away from Medellin, and it is known as one of the most colorful and beautiful towns in the country, there you can find “La Piedra del Peñón”, a 220 meters high rock where you have to climb 740 steps to have an incredible view. In Guatapé you can also walk among the “Zocalos”. Those are the lower parts of the houses, and they are very common in Guatapé because all of them are painted in different bright colors since the twentieth century.
Then we would definitely travel to somewhere on the coast of Colombia like Santa Marta where there’s a park called “Tayrona”, home to some of the most stunning stretches of sand in South America, and is the perfect place to enjoy some sunbathing and swimming, it’s a large protected area covering the foothills of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta as they meet the Caribbean coast so the water comes in very strong, it’s a place where you won’t have phone service but you’ll learn how to connect with people, how to surf and it’s a place to take some time off to reset and meet the most exciting part about being Colombia: Their people. They are super kind and super passionate, so Colombia it’s the perfect place to be surrounded by the people that you love, or best friend in this case.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In order for me to be recognized for my success, I should mention my mom and my parents. My parents came here from Colombia when they were about 30 years old as immigrants, and they taught me the fundamentals I needed to succeed in life. For example, “Dedication and doing things with love are crucial to success”. So that’s why when my entrepreneur journey began about 13 years ago, I was driven by the values and support my parents gave me to get off the ground with the business. Without their support and the principles they taught me, would have been very hard to get where I am today. In fact, it would have been pretty impossible to do everything I’ve done up to now if it wasn’t for my dad and my mom, and I’m thankful every day for them.
