We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Bohman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bruce, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
A really important lesson I’ve learned in my career is how to follow. I was always in leadership roles growing up and when I graduated college and got into the real world I started at the bottom. Learning to follow has made me into a good leader today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve worked in the Television industry for 16 years. I earned my degree in Film and Television from the Savannah College of Art and Design and moved to New York City after graduation. I started my career interning at MTV in Times Square and then freelanced from there. I’ve traveled all over the world shooting documentaries and other non-fiction tv shows and have had a lot of amazing experiences. I think I am most proud of some of the documentaries I’ve had the privilege of working on, some of which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, Netflix and HBO MAX . I think I’ve gotten to where I am today because I always try to have a positive attitude on set. Anytime I would start to hit some challenges along they way I would just think of everything as a learning experience. I realized I was always going to be learning and growing and that success doesn’t exist, there is only the process. An upcoming project I am really excited about is a series for Amazon Prime I’ve been working on titled “One Shot: Overtime Elite” which is about the Overtime Elite Basketball program, its players and coaches. It has been a dream project to work on as it has combined my passion for television production and basketball.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anytime anyone comes to visit me in Atlanta I like to take them to eat at “The Bando” chicken wing spot on the west side. I think it’s a super unique experience and the wings are amazing. After that I would take them tubing on the Chattahoochee River because it’s always a fun and relaxing summertime vibe. Then in the evening I would take them to the Trap Music Museum because it is also a unique experience that really showcases the culture of Atlanta. Then of course Waffle House to round out the perfect day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom and Dad deserve a special shoutout. They have always believed in me and nurtured my career and creativity. My Mom was my High School Art teacher and my Dad was my basketball coach and P.E. teacher. My Mom always taught me the power of my creativity and artistic ability and Dad taught me about hard work, teamwork, and leadership through the world of sports. Those two philosophies have translated well to a career in the Film and Television industry.
