We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Upshaw-Mott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what is the most important factor behind your success?
If I could only choose one factor, it would be my work ethic. One of my favorite quotes is “They may be smarter than you. They may have more money than you. They may come from a different city or a better family. But they can NEVER outwork you.” I’m going to work my hardest because I’m always betting on myself and I refuse to lose, give up, or come in second place.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is B. Lush & Co, which was officially launched May 22, 2020. The business was actually fairly easy to start for me since it was something I had been doing previously under a different name. I had begun playing around with the idea of making candles in March and once I decided to launch the new venture, it all came together. I wanted B. Lush & Co. to be a brand slowly and surely, it is coming together.

The most important lesson I’ve learned is it’s okay to ask for help! As I’ve grown, I realize that I can only do so much and it was time for me to get outside help as myself as well as the business has grown. The other thing that has tremendously helped me is not being afraid to sell myself!! I know my products and services are top notch and the best promoter is me! If I don’t have what someone likes or what they’re looking for, I add it to my list so that when I create new content or products, I can create it and make sure I reach out or follow up to let them know I have what they’re looking for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG! So if they’re here visiting, a few places I would take them in Columbus would be: •The Circa Lounge

•Coco-Cola Space Center
•The Riverwalk
•The Loft
•The Botanical Garden
•National Infantry Museum
• 11th & Bay Restaurant

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My tribe is amazing! There is no way I would be as successful as I am without my parents, my sisters Shaunlonnicka Upshaw, Tisha Young, Rekita Steward, and Quay Mott, my bonus sisters Kaliena Harris, Shaunte Miller, Jacqueline Brown, Aoki Nikol, Jamecia Simmons, Symphany Alexander, Valerie Hall, the real boss Kalaysia Upshaw, all my clients, you guys make everything worth it, and last but not least, my husband Markus Mott. The encouragement, motivation, support, feedback, criticism, and uplifting if everything!
