Meet Brittany Sjogren | Loverly Grey- Digital Creator and the host of the Life with Loverly Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Sjogren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In January 2016, I decided to start what I thought would be a side passion project at the time. I have always had a strong love for shopping and fashion and would spend my lunch breaks going on a hunt for fashionable and affordable workwear. I thrive on styling outfits multiple ways. I remember when I was younger I would write in my agenda what I would wear to school everyday, so I wouldn’t wear the same thing, but repurpose pieces in other ways to get the most out of my wardrobe. I would have co-workers tell me repeatedly that I should start a blog focusing on workwear because it would benefit so many women. I thought, if this could help just a few other women find fashionable pieces to style their wardrobe, I wanted to help!
I began with building a blog and Instagram that was focused mainly on workwear, as I felt that was what was missing in the blogging space. I would share what I was wearing everyday to work, on a date night, or to run errands and would always inform others when a great sale was going on.
What I thought would be a fun outlet for me to be creative and helpful quickly turned into something much larger than I ever expected! After only a year of hard work, I was able to leave my corporate job and begin my entrepreneurial journey full time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Loverly Grey has become a lot more than I ever thought possible. From starting out writing a blog to now having over 1.1 million followers on Instagram is insane. If I have learned anything on this journey, it is to have patience, grace, and courage. It takes a lot of hard work and consistency.
Something that I would encourage people to do when starting a business is to ask “what is the problem you think you can solve?” and fill that void.
While in my corporate job, I didn’t see anyone sharing sales and different ways to style workwear, and that is what I needed when going to work each day. I realized the lack of resources in those two areas and seized the opportunity. Fast forward to today and I’m still sharing sale alerts, fashion finds, and workwear styles. Other bloggers have followed suit since then, but I would say the consistency of my content is what has set me apart.
One of the biggest things I took for granted was the leadership that would be involved. I started this business for myself and didn’t really think through the fact that I may have to hire and lead a team one day. So, my advice to anyone starting your own business, take some leadership courses. Continue to develop yourself along the way!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My hometown of Athens, Georgia has so many fun things to do! We have some of the cutest, most charming restaurants and of course we are home of the Georgia Bulldogs! So, if it was football season, we would HAVE to go to a football game! Another one of my favorite things to do is go to some of the great restaurants we have here in Athens: Last Resort, 5&10, Chucks Fish, South Kitchen, Mama’s Boy, The Expat, ZZ and Simone’s, and more!
If we were having breakfast, Mama’s Boy, hands down. For dinner, ZZ and Simone’s. After dinner we could go to Last Resort and get a piece of Cecilia’s famous cake and have some champagne!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I think of where I am in my business and how far I have come in the last 7 years, I have so many people that I have to thank. I first think of my parents, Jeff and Sabina Wallace, and my husband, Chris Sjogren. The support and encouragement they gave at the beginning and continue to give daily is what has kept me going strong. My first assistant, Anna Page, who helped me see what else Loverly Grey was capable of with help from a team.
I would like to thank Jenn Boughey, my Life Coach, for helping shift my mindset around the life of being an entrepreneur/CEO. Nichelle Sharer, my Director of Operations, for supporting me in growing other brands beyond Loverly Grey and leading a team of now 7 employees.
There are so many other people who have been such a vital part of the growth of Loverly Grey. I could not have done this without all of their love and support.
