We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I am the mother to a four-year old little girl who is a fiercely made powerhouse truly made in God’s perfect image. I think this is the champion reigning question for all parent’s; the whole idea that there even is “one” principle or idea you would really want to ensure you leave your child with because you know the significance and/or impact it may have on their life. I got so crippled with trying to decide on “one” thing; when the true landmark of my due diligence as a parent will be the opportunities I create for my child/children. Opportunity, I will acclaim, is the most important thing I can do or give to my child/children. Together my daughter and I run an organization called The Millennial Mom’s Digest and through community awareness on various topics, that is what MMD is trying to create for Mothers, their children and future generations to come; opportunity. “At the root of opportunity is change. Change can birth a world full of opportunities.”- Brittany Scott

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am entering my 2nd year in Pharmacovigilance, as a Clinical Research, Study Start-Up Contract and Budget Procurement Specialist. I have found a niche role in which my inherent need to be analytical perfectionist can thrive and I truly love it. It is an extremely demanding career choice but it equally challenges me and provides with immense opportunities for career development and growth. As the numbers steadily incline for Black Women emerging in Clinical Research I am extremely proud to be apart of the increasing retention rates for Black Women in Clinical Research. What’s most ironic about my “Corporate Climb” is that I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Minor in Women and Gender Studies…so not even remotely Science related fields at all. I remember vividly, at a graduation party when someone asked what I was going to do now, post-graduation and I responded I wanted to work in Research; and they laughed. So, my first assurance to anyone who wishes to assert themselves in the field of Clinical Research is to forget your degree. Seriously, don’t let your degree limit your opportunity. Finesse, Finesse, Finesse; and make your degree work for you. Furthermore, I started out in a call center, working 3rd shift and being compensated extremely too low for my worth. However, I knew my goal and with each new level of professionalism I acquired and mastered the skills I knew would unlock the keys to the next level-up. I’ve learned a great deal about character along my professional journey. Maintaining a credible character has vouched for my professional acumen, and preparedness when I physically have not been in the room to do so and my character has upheld my transparency when it has been questioned. When speaking about Professional success, I think it also needs to be said that…You should not ever let an Institution put a cap on your potential. I just knew the best way for me to truly help people was to graduate from the MPA program at UNC; and when I was not accepted, I was literally crushed. I knew I was more than qualified and then I realized that the denial letter from them [UNC] did not strip me of my qualifications!!! Through determination and God’s will; I have went on to exceed even my own expectations; not only in my professional career but also as an entrepreneur. Now, I honestly laugh at the thought of UNC Admissions assuming I could not measure up to the rigor of their program because of something as small as a GPA or GRE Score when I negotiate million dollar budget for a living now!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It seemed like right when the Pandemic hit, my world fell apart; I had to incur a salary reduction at my job due to COVID-19, my longest friendships were quickly unraveling, and my personal business lacked my time, interest, and financial backing. What I could see in front of me was pretty destitute. Ironically about a month before this all happened, I kept having strong convictions from God to center myself with him however I could; so I thirstily consumed podcast, sermons, gospel music; literally anything I could get my hands on…and it’s almost as if God was preparing me for it all to fall apart. My shout out goes to God but specifically to Pastor’s Michael and Natalie Todd of Transformation Church; really the entire TC Family! When I felt alone, and forgotten about; I was reminded of the grace of God’s separation when preparing you to walk into your season of blessing(s)! Many nights I fell asleep listening to Transformation Church’s Praise & Worship Spotify radio, I learned how to truly come to God in prayer in my time of need and for me, it was life saving. Every new level of Success is going to require more commitment and sometimes more separation from the things and people who make us comfortable; this is not easy but with God it is graceful. I am truly thankful to have been listening to God when he directed me to Transformation Church.
