We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany S. Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what do you want your legacy to be?
My legacy will be that I loved my children, served Jesus Christ radically, broke generational curses, and contributed to my society by creating meaningful self-development programs for at-risk youth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an experienced motivational speaker and writer. I share my experience and knowledge to encourage those serving system-involved youth to think circumspectly and do what is in the BEST interest of their young person(s). Also, I empower at-risk youth to change their life for the better by telling my story on how I overcame foster care and the juvenile justice system. f I remind them if I can make it through those troubling times, so can they.
When I began sharing my story professionally, it was not easy. I had low self-esteem and was fearful that I would fail at being a motivational speaker. However, a fantastic advocacy group called Georgia EmpowerMEnt trained me to advocate for foster care youth effectively. The knowledge I received from being connected to Georgia EmpowerMEnt helped me discover my voice and desire to pursue entrepreneurship.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that it is IMPORTANT to be your true self and know your WORTH. If not, your business will fail, and people will either overlook you or run over you. So invest much time in self-discovery and then dominate in your career or business.
My resiliency and determination to uplift the youth is my brand. I want people to know I represent the at-risk youth of this country. I serve as a reminder that our young people are worth the love and respect that they rightfully deserve. With much love, support and care, I am who I am today. My rise to greatness can be their story too. Now I am calling you all to do the same with the young people you come across daily. This nation can be great when we invest in our youth positively, for they are our future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best family-owned Italian restaurant in Georgia is Scalini’s. Their Penne Pasta Prima Vera is to die for. I would highly recommend foodies to visit this unique gem when they have the time. Also, if you’re into dancing and having fun, I would say visit Suite Lounge, which is not too far from the Georgia Aquarium (a must-see). Finally, Cascade is the place to be on a Saturday for those who desire that nostalgic feeling while skating. Overall, downtown Atlanta is excellent. There are so many things to do and see here in Atlanta. The Atlanta culture is something you really cannot explain with words; you have to experience it!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give credit to God, my parents Andre and Beverly Myers, grandmother Mary, pastor (Dr. Dannetta Spark-Lamb), former juvenile probation officer ( Dr. Fern Clark), and my closest friend (Eshontee Rowe) for my ongoing success!
I shout out to these individuals for they believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. They pushed me to be great despite my past and look at me now; an entrepreneur that will continue to influence the masses positively.
