We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Renaud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been a Registered Nurse for the past 15 years. My work has mainly encompassed being in the hospital at the bedside. While I enjoyed the work I did, I always knew my role would eventually evolve and I would branch off and begin my own business. Healthcare can be tricky. You have an influx of patients who come into the hospital to seek care. Often times for chronic conditions. I started noticing a revolving door of patients who come in for what I like to call a “tune up” for an acute condition that is more than likely related to the chronic condition they already have. So, I started to wonder how I could add value to the situation. I already interacted with my patients when I cared for them, but I started to ask different questions, such as “Who cares for you when you are not in the hospital” and “Who cooks your meals and gets you to appointments”. As you can imagine, the answers would vary from patient to patient. However, a common thread I found was that there were a lot of inconsistencies. Some patients had no family at all. Some had a sibling or offspring who would check in on them. But family members have their own lives and may need some extra support when it comes to taking care of a loved one. This is when I started doing my research and found out there was an existing industry for what I wanted to offer: Home Care

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Pampered Patient is a concierge-style home care agency. The concept for the name came from being a direct care provider for patients. If someone is not feeling well, a simple fluff of the pillow, straightening up their room, or bathing and changing their gown can be supportive to their mental and physical health. People want to be loved on. They want people around who will properly care for them. They want to be pampered. We focus on more concierge style care because if you think of any prominent hotel you’ve ever been to…they have a Concierge. That person’s job is to perform various tasks for their guests and anticipate needs. We’ve adopted this mindset for our home care agency. If we know that one of our clients loves her black coffee with three sugars, then that’s the first thing we want to do when we get to the client’s house. People love that!

Starting a business is definitely not easy. In the state of Georgia, home care agencies are regulated by the state. The process to become licensed was long and arduous. By continuing to tackle each challenge and take it step by step, we were able to become fully licensed at the end of last year.

The world should know how important home care is to the future of healthcare. Baby boomers currently represent one of the largest generations in our history and are living longer. As they continue to age, they may need to rely on home care services to assist them with some of their daily needs. Many people these days want to remain in their homes. The Pampered Patient provides a service where you can not only age in place, but age with grace.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, that’s a great question. We would do dinner at Poor Calvin’s or Rock Steady. Hit up the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the High Museum (Friday jazz is great). I’m a self care addict so we will definitely get mani/pedis somewhere and foot massages at Treat Your Feet. For full body massages, it would be The Waldorf Astoria or The Buckhead Massage Company. Also, we can’t forget about our fitness. We would definitely hike up Stone Mountain a couple of days. Let’s experience the Dekalb Farmer’s Market for some groceries (because you can’t eat out EVERY night). We would end the week with a Sunday Funday. The seafood brunch buffet at Ray’s is superb.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has been a major driving force in my success. She nudged me along to attend nursing school and she has continued to nudge me along throughout this entrepreneur journey. She will email me articles in the middle of the night or an inspirational text in the mornings. She is always a beam of positivity.

Additionally, my big little sister always gives me a dose of tough love. While her approach may be different from my mother’s, I know that the love is there and she only wants the very best for me.

Last but not least, my husband has been wonderful support. He recognizes my passion and holds down our household and encourages me in such a magnificent way.
