Meet Brittany Marshall | Artist & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Want to know something crazy? This was all unintentional. I’ve always been into art, since I was in kindergarten I’ve always been in art shows, and taking advanced art classes growing up, but I never really knew my potential. In 2017, I had a friend of mine post my artwork on twitter because I was so scared, I’ve never posted my artwork before. This is where everything started, I got so much love and support from this I even got put into an art show on campus held by an organization called Media Arts Geniuses. After, I was asked by a graduate that I knew if I could paint on his cap for him for that semester. I definitely hesitated at first because I’ve never done this before, this was new to me, I never even knew getting your grad cap decorated was a thing! After his cap I ended up doing 3 that semester, that was something to me! In the spring, I had multiple orders from my school as well as GSU and FAU and realized maybe I have something going on here? From that point I had Florida and Georgia on lock, and after that the rest is history, TheBrittBrand was born. Now I have bookings reaching California, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, and Tennessee, just to name a few! Something unintentional turned into everything plus more and I’m forever grateful for it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So besides the artsy stuff, at once point in time I was working 3 jobs as well as my business. Being a waitress, bartender, and working at footlocker. I know, I lost my mind. I had took a step back from school, trying to save enough money to go back and finish. But, I’m not the type of person to just sit back and wait for things to magically happen for me. I had to get up and keep myself busy. It would be days where I worked all three jobs in one day and have to come home and work on business stuff and then repeat. So there was no excuse, I had to get up and get to it! Definitely was a challenge but I had to do what I had to do. It ended up getting to the point where I only had to work 1 job because my business was constantly growing and expanding that I didn’t need to be working all 3 anymore there just wasn’t enough time in a day and it’s only 1 of me. That was a goal though, building my business to where I could be supported off of that income. I was only working the other job once a month really. I’ve learned that nothing in life is delivered to you on a silver platter. You have to work towards it. Like my mama always says, “you’re in charge of your own destiny.” Time doesn’t stop for anyone but it’s what you do with the time that you are given. And that’s what I live by.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Im all for being adventurous and trying new things! Would have to go to Reverb and go to the rooftop and have drinks that overlooks the skyline right next to the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Stop by Jr Crickets to get some amazing hot lemon pepper wings. Go to a Cru lounge and smoke hookah and listen to good music! That week we could probably hike Stone Mountain so don’t forget your hiking shoes! Be prepared for a JOURNEY! Maybe hit up an art museum. Go to Nana’s Chicken and waffles from brunch. Definitely have to go to Spin Art that week, I went there for the first time and it was so fun! Absolutely have to go bowling. Have a picnic and write in journals about where we see ourselves in the future. Now that’s my type of adventure. New food spots, good vibes, all makes a good time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shoutout will never uphold the love and support that I receive constantly from my friends and family. They remind me every day that I am truly blessed with such a gift and how humble I am. They motivate me to keep going and that this calling was meant for me. But, I absolutely have to give glory and thanks to God. Even when I wanted to give up, he wouldn’t let me. Even when I didn’t have all the words to say, I make sure I tell him “thank you”. His timing is always correct and I never questioned him, not once. He’s intentional, never failing. I always say God’s timing is always correct , designed and destined for everyone differently. My story is unfinished but I know I have such an amazing support system behind me every chapter and step of the way. I am truly blessed and I can’t thank them enough. Shoutout to them! I love you guys so much!
