We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Durr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how does your business help the community?
I am very intentional on the impact my business has on my community and the world. Specifically my students and my city. Chicago is known for many different stereotypes. Some far from the truth and some with some truth to them. BDurrsCollection will change the narrative on what Chicago has to offer with its unique approach of fashion and education.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I am a business owner. My career is in education. I am about to start my eight school year as an educator. I love my job and I love my students. Being a teacher has taught me so many valuable things in life that I hold dear to my heart. Being a teacher has also built character in me, and has me addicted to coffee lol. Three years into my business I found myself severely overwhelmed. Being a teacher and a business owner was getting the best of me. I needed to find a way to make things easier for me. The perfect idea pop into my mind. I started an organization for students Calle SMG. This organization allowed students to learn marketing, social media logistics, inventory and much more. Since the start of SMG My students work very closely with me and held running my business. It changed things for me tremendously.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is so exciting because truth be told I am a homebody , but I do like to get out every now and again.

Chicago is a beautiful city and we have the best food hands down.

Brunch : we are definitely going to Fremont in down town Chicago

Instead of waiting in line for food fun and drinks we would rent a boat and take us on a nice boat ride. We would bring our own food a drinks with us. Of course we are eating cat fish fillet from Harold’s . I’m from the Southside so that explains that lol.

We would also visit this really cute spot called radio room Chicago has amazing boneless wings and the set up inside is a vibe.

For some night life fun we would very likely end up at this beautiful winery located on the side south of Chicago. It is easily one of my favorite places to visit. They make their own wine on site and it’s such a chilled laid back spot with dope people, amazing conversation and bond music . 10/10 for sure.

I am a coffee shop girl and I love to go sit in coffee shops to get work done, just to enjoy coffee and scroll on my phone, journal or just get out of the house. Afro joes has a really great spot in Beverly.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would be remiss if I didn’t give God his credit in being apart of my story. He gets the highest recognition. The way God has wired me is truly a blessing. The people he has allowed into my life, the opportunities he has presented me with are all apart of my unique story. There has been so many ups and downs, discouraging moments and even times where I believed it was all too much an unattainable. Nothing but the love of God has kept me going after all of these years.
