We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how does your business help the community?
My business gives individuals of all ages and all ethnic groups love and more confidence in their own skin. As well as teaching them how to properly care for their skin. However my focus demographic is the black community.

My initial start was to solve the issue of lacking skincare products on the shelves for those who look like me. I started my business to give my community skincare love in a bottle of all types to naturally heal all issues and boost confidence and self acceptance in our own skin.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Besthetic Cosmetics Skin Lounge is a holistic spa and we offer a full holistic skincare line Besthetic Cosmetics. Our motto is “Give your skin love so you can love your skin.” I’m most proud of educating my community on proper skincare from nature thats also chemical and cruelty free.

I am currently working hard to change the comfort level from uncomfortable to comfortable in the black community on topics like our intimate areas, sex, & more. The uncomfortable topics about our bodies and how to properly care for them and our intimate areas is a huge deal for me. I now offer a curriculum that covers these subjects for all ages and schools from middle schools to universities. I’m proud of the small impact I have made so far and I’m thrilled to be able to touch and change more lives. I will forever have a passion to educate young black men and women on the importance of care for the largest organ of the body. It’s extremely important for all genders to know the serious impact what we put in our body has as well as on our body.

How did your business get this far? What business advice do you have?
My business is where it is now because of my passion and dedication to shifting my clients back to God’s purpose of the plants and herbs he provides us. Everything on this earth that wasn’t tampered with by man was carefully given to us to use and heal our bodies the way God intended it. & I plan to keep reminding the world just how much power is in the supplies God gave us.

Building a business solo with no inheritance or financial help is hard and it’s a test of strength everyday! But the key is to never give up keep God at the center and to remember your why. I invested my entire savings into my first spa because it takes money to make money & thats something to remember. This industry is not a get rich quick scheme it takes HUSTLE and what you put into it you will get out of it! Don’t let the slow seasons slow you down and use your time wisely. You will go far as long as you believe and have faith.
