We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There was really no thought process, to be honest. I believe I wanted to and I still do this for the kids in the communities where they may not see someone like them learning or teaching something cool. Growing up I never saw anyone who looked like me on television or in the classroom. So my company OurSpace promotes individuality and togetherness in a space where you don’t have to be defined. The main thing I hope my students take away from my program is that you can do anything you want to do as long as you do it well and do good by others in a space where you can all be free.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are so many lessons I’ve learned over the years. I’ve finally merged The Pieces of Bee and OurSpace together. The Pieces of Bee is everything that makes up who I am as a person. I’ve been building this brand for a long time and I finally feel like it’s becoming something. I’ve been working hard for years and now in this chapter of my life, I feel so confident in who I am and what I’m supposed to be doing with my life. So many lessons have been taught me but the most important lesson is learning how to sit still and let everything fall into place no matter how uncomfortable the stillness maybe it is happening for a reason and that reason is bigger than that moment of stillness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a good place to have a good time; my favorite spots are in the city where all of the traffic is. However, if it’s the weekend and I want to just hang and chill definitely going to BLAZE Pizza, and then the HIGH Museum of course. And if we are still hungry after all of that amazing pizza then Slutty Vegan is the best spot to just kick it and chill and see so many beautiful people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Tribe for sure deserves a shoutout; my Mom who is basically my manager; she does all of the behind the scenes as far as marketing and planning. My friends encourage me daily to do my best in all of the things that I do. I feel like I’m surrounded by the best people some days and it doesn’t go unnoticed. I’m appreciative of all of the parents that continually support my program and most importantly the kids that makeup OurSpace are absolutely amazing.
