We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I would consider my balance over time to be more of a juggle. After a lot of major life changes, the balance has come into play now more recently than ever. With time, I am learning to approach obstacles with a plan. In the medical field, we are taught to be prepared for whatever medical emergency that may occur. I am slowly realizing that this same approach can bring balance in other important areas of my life. Some since of balance has to be in place to prevent feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or distressed. Balance is very important when you’re a wife, full-time medical assistant, a long distance co-parent & a plus model. It’s easier said than done, but I’ve never been one to give up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Curve Model/Medical Assistant

My personality, willingness to try new things, sense of humor, and calm-cool (optimistic??) attitude set me apart from others. I approach everything in modeling & my career with an open mind. Modeling makes me happy, I feel my most creative when in front of the camera. When I’m working with a photographer, I want to make their concept into my own; fit my personality and body. My calm-cool attitude makes it easier for me to relax & be comfortable expressing myself during a photoshoot.
These same things are true with my everyday job. I have always worked in the medical field. Healthcare has just always been my thing, but growing in different fields of healthcare has been fun and exciting too.
I am most proud of my growth over the years as a person and a curve model. When I started modeling almost 5 years ago, it was a hobby, something to take my mind off other things that seemed to be out of my control at the time. I wanted to focus my energy elsewhere & invest in myself. I wanted to do something outside of the medical field that would also allow me to grow and meet new, creative people.
I’m being published in magazines, receiving invitations to sit on discussions panels and podcasts, my social media presence continues to grow, and I’m working as an ambassador with community and internet brands. All of this while still completing classes at THE Pearl School of Modeling. Needless to say, I’m excited about the things to come!
I am where I am today as a Curve Model because I simply started. I was inspired when I attended my first body positive art exhibit by Liza Ashe, Founder of Good Curvy. From there, I began preparing myself to be a Curve Model. I created my composite cards, started working with local photographers to build up my portfolio, and applied for local model castings. In the beginning, I heard a lot of “no’s”. I figured that was due to my lack of experience and knowledge of the industry. In January 2020, I won a full scholarship to A Lady Named Pearl Modeling & Leadership Academy here in Atlanta. The curriculum included poise & posing, runway presence, public speaking, etiquette, entrepreneurship, and the power of networking. In December 2020, I crossed over and became a Pearl Sister with a certificate of completion & an award for “Best at Striking a Pose.”
My modeling journey has not been easy, especially while balancing a full-time career amongst other things. I have encountered my share of shady photographers, brands & organizations. I have learned with experience that it is important to do your research before committing to anyone or anything.
I want the world to know that my modeling journey is just beginning. My name is being mentioned in rooms I have yet to enter. I am also working on a new and exciting business venture that will be launching by late Fall 2022. Be sure to follow me @_thedreamkween on IG and @dreamkween on TikTok for updates!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to visit, we’d start off by hitting up the Atlanta Food Truck Park & Market on Howell Mill. They always have a variety of options. My friends, like me, need a nap on vacation. So after a little R & R , we’re hitting up Fin and Feathers to catch a vibe and hit the dance floor. Throughout the week there would be breakfast at Gustbuster’s on Candler or Angie’s Place on Memorial Drive; depending on what time we’re up, brunch at Cirque Atlanta or Flying Biscuit. It’s not a vacation unless we get some facials or massages. The following days would be spent, shopping and sight seeing in Decatur & downtown Atlanta, checking out flea markets and thrift stores. We most definitely have to swing by the Girl Mob Selfie Museum or the Culture Museum to take some fun pictures. The trip would not be complete without heading to Snellville for a good cook out. My sister & Brodad are known for firing up the grill and inviting a few friends over to cap off an awesome week with my best friend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am nothing with a support system. My mother & sister are always number one for me. They have been a major influences in life, as they both are strong, hard-working, educated women whom I’ve never seen give up. I admire their strength the most.
In my modeling career, Arita Lashon & my Curvy Babe Crew sisters are always a vibe. We are constantly uplifting and supporting each other. My amazing friends are always showing love and support.
Any model that I have met on this journey, I have taken a gem away from the encounter. Women empowering, connecting & growing is always a good energy for me.
Shoutout to my amazing husband, Chris Brown, everything I never knew I needed. He is always supporting and encouraging me to do more and has been present for all my ups and downs. He’s the real MVP.
