We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Briscoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Intimacy Out Loud was simply from my upbringing. Today we live in a world where everything is accessible at your fingertips, kids can see any and everything with just a click of a button. Growing up in the black community you’re never taught about sex education and the proper measures that should be taken if you find yourself in a situation. I became an American Board Certified Sexologist to not only educate but also bring intimacy back into the lives for individuals and couples/partners. I have learned that many don’t know intimacy starts outside the bedroom, besides sharing tools and tips/tricks it’s important to know that open communication and comprehension is essential, and consent is required.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

My business Intimacy Out Loud is not something I do full -time (YET!) but I know the day is coming where I will be able to work solely for myself. What sets me apart I believe is my approach, yes I am a black woman educating others in the black community but I also provide a safe sex positive space for people to be themselves, to come talk to me privately and also making sure I provide the community with events and workshops because not everyone is ready to sit and book an individual session to talk about such a private matter. Since starting I have learned that there are so many levels to intimacy outside of the bedroom but many people lack that because they don’t know how to communicate with their partners about what it is they want or are scared to. They also don’t know what it is they want and I believe once you find out what it is you want the easier it is to communicate with your partner about what it is you are needing.

My brand is not just around talking and coaching people but I have an intimates line as well called Intimates by Intimacy Out Loud and there I sell lingerie, adult toys, and am in the production process for my own candle that melts into massage oil. My main purpose is to educate, help couples and individuals live in their truth, have fun and bring intimacy back into their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town we would go downtown to Creaux and have a drink, order up some fish and hopefully catch some live music depending on the day and time. I’m an activities person so things like bowling, battle axes, gokarts, etc. will always be the move.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dr. Jay Watts (Jay ThaLoveologist) is my mentor and was also my instructor. Since I started on this journey she has done nothing but supported me and given me great exposure. From an educational standpoint she has provided me with resources so that I am not giving false information but making sure I am building myself up to continue on this path and be successful! I’ve gotten great support from others in this community that are in my cohort but also my friends and family have been very supportive of my new path in life.
