We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Once I decided I didn’t want to rely on anyone else for a paycheck, I jumped all in, without ever thinking, “this is just a try-it-out” situation. I knew 1000% that I was going to move forward and keep moving forward and I was just never going to be done or step back out of owning and running my own business. The decision that I made and continue to make on a daily basis is that I have my own back. No matter what happens, I am going to show up for myself. I am going to get better. I am going to take on the challenge(s) and open my creative brain to find answers. Even when I get to a place where I’m comfortable for a little while, I am always going to be looking for that next shift I can make. I have an unpenetrable belief in myself. I know I can do hard things. I know I can make my dreams a reality.

I couldnt decide which one to answer, so I answered both:

Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?
Massage is an art form in itself and helped me recognize that piece that I have within me. As a creative, I have a desire to look at things from multiple angles, have a control over the way things look or turn out, and add a little twist here and there until it looks and feels good to me. I enjoy a challenge and the versatility that comes with being a business owner. I’ve never been one that’s content with mundane tasks on repeat. The simple fact that, especially in the beginning, I had to constantly be thinking of ways I was going to make enough money to survive, thrilled me. Now that I am more successful, I get to be creative about what I spend my money on and the ways I want to help others heal. My definition of success has changed from dollar signs to focusing more on reach and impact. It’s about who I can help, who I can connect with, and in turn, being able to live my chosen lifestyle through those intentional connections.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, which always has events and adventures, but I am mostly a homebody if I am being honest. I have favorites I can be found returning to but it’s been a while since I went out and explored so if you know of some places I need to go, tell me! I am a brunch kind of girl. Let’s start a day with some coffee or a matcha tea latte at Peace on Earth Coffee in Riverton. Then we can head over to Dancing Cranes in SugarHouse to pick out some new crystals, tapestry, plants, tarot cards or any other unique items to bring our vibrations up.
If we are going to spend a whole week together, you aren’t getting away without going on some hikes or possibly a camping trip with me! This is where I adventure! If the dogs are coming with us ( I have a two year old pitbull named Louie), we can go to the Living Room hike that’s up behind the University of Utah campus and we can stare out at the twinkling lights and big buildings of SLC. If my friends are up for a challenge and are more experienced, we’re going up the Lake Blanche hike in Sandy for the beautiful scenery experience.
On a lowkey weekend, I might invite you to go to a comedy show at WiseGuys. They do a lot of improv and invite people up to participate which is my type of humor. There’s also this great venue called SoundWell in Salt Lake where we can go enjoy some EDM music artists like Opiou, Sickick, Thriftworks, Of The Trees, and the like.
A few of my favorite restaurants that never do me wrong are Taqueria 27. There’s a few locations scattered about. I always recommend getting whatever their Taco of The Day is. Jinya is the best place for a ramen enthusiast. Bawarchi in South Jordan is my favorite because I love spicy food and they truly hit the mark for my Indian cravings and spice levels.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t always had my sisters help and support. She is 3 years older than me, and from the beginning of my memories she has had my back. She has taught me so many important lessons, and is always willing to help me when I get stuck. She listens to all of my ideas and asks important follow up questions. She helps me brainstorm solutions, and reminds me of my ability when I have any doubts. Not to mention she often helps me with all the technical challenges that my mind tends to struggle breaking down. Running your own business involves a lot of emotions, and my sister has always been my safe space to process fears and anxieties without letting me lose focus or give up on my goals. Everybody needs a Becky in their lives!
