We had the good fortune of connecting with Britni Vadnais and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Britni, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been painting and reselling furniture and home decor for over half of my life. Over the years, I have developed my individual style of home decor, and custom wooden-framed signs. It brings me incredible amounts of joy. Becoming an independent business owner was naturally the next step in my professional journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The biggest thing that sets me a part is that every single aspect of my business is customizable. Any size, any color, any font, and everything else can be completely customized to your specifications.

I chose the name “Life’s Canopy” because the tree’s canopy protects and encompasses all beneath it. I can customize, down the minute detail, precisely what you need to make your space perfect and that is the basis behind creating Life’s Canopy. I want to help you make your space your’s.

What makes me proud and gives me the gumption that I need to keep going is receiving photos from my clients of their piece in its’ finished space. Being able to make my clients exactly what they envisioned and seeing it come to life reaffirms my job.

What sets me apart from other artisans is that I chose to leave corporate America to follow my dreams and fully invest myself and my time into Life’s Canopy, raising my 7 year old daughter, and fulfilling my passion. As much as I’ve built Life’s Canopy, Life’s Canopy has also built me. Getting divorced, leaving my “safe” 9-5 job, and finally deciding to pursue my wildest dreams took more courage than I knew I had, but it also gave me more strength than I knew I could hold. Throughout this journey the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that being truly happy is more valuable than anything else on this earth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Woodstock! I thoroughly enjoy the nightlife in Downtown Woodstock. Not only are the restaurants amazing but there is always something to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, my close friends and family are my biggest supporters! Without them, I could not do what I do. As a young girl, my Grandmother (a.k.a “Mugger”) spent hours and hours behind the sewing machine with me teaching me how to sew. That woman instilled within me a deep love for working with my hands. Meanwhile, my Papa and my Dad also taught me the love of woodworking. They taught me how to whittle sling-shots and rubber band shooters at first, but they also showed me the vast options of my limitless creations with wood as a medium.
