We had the good fortune of connecting with Britni Thiesen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britni, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
I am the proud mother of two amazing children, and I would say the most important thing I have done as a parent is teaching them the importance of priorities. As much as I love my work and the creative process of design, it is not my first priority. It’s actually not even in my top three! I want my kids to know that first and foremost my relationship with God is my first priority. Apart from that relationship I can do nothing so it has to be number one. Secondly, my marriage. I strongly believe one of the greatest gifts we can give to our kids is a healthy marriage. My husband is my greatest support and best friend. Without him there is no way I could do what I do! Thirdly, my family. When my kids are home from school I try my best to log off. It’s not always easy when you own your own business and you have to wear many hats but you also have the ability to set your own office hours and mine are closed after school! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my business but it’s not my number one. I think that’s why I have been successful I have my prioritizes straight and at the end of the day my hope is that my kids see that and never second guess my love for them!
What should our readers know about your business?
I have always had a passion for creating welcoming interiors for people to come home to! In 2015, I decided to start my own business and it has been growing ever since! I specialize in interior design and re-designing peoples homes. I also do small commercial jobs, holiday decorating, and home staging. Owning my own business is not easy and I’m constantly learning to improve my processes. One thing that I am very proud of and believe sets Thiesen Interiors apart is that I enjoy working with what people have and using it in new ways. Often times, people have great pieces to work with but just don’t know how to pull it together. I love to come in and reuse existing pieces and give them new life. Yes, we may need to bring in some new but let’s start with what you already have!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things to do is host friends and family and show them around. We live in Alpharetta just outside of Atlanta and it really has become such a fun city to live in. I would take my friends either to the Avalon to shop and have a traditional Italian pizza at Antico or head to downtown Alpharetta to one of the many new bars or restaurants all within walking distance! Truck and Tap is one of my favorites to hit up on trivia night. We love to grab a beer, some food truck grub, and test our trivia knowledge!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a huge amount of my success to my family especially my mother, Ava. She is my mentor, friend, and design partner! Growing up she was so creative and inspired me to always be myself. We love to work together on design projects and because we have unconditional love for one another, we can disagree on something but always come back together. She knows she can speak truth to me, which isn’t always easy to hear but it makes me a better person and designer. I’m incredibly grateful for her!
