Meet Brit K.S | Paranormal Fantasy Romance Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brit K.S and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brit, how do you think about risk?
As a published independent author, I embrace the risks that come with every release. Choosing not to query an agent or pursue the traditional publishing route was another leap of faith, but retaining control over my brand, my stories, and my publishing schedule was essential to my journey. By building my own business and navigating the publishing world firsthand, I’ve learned more than I ever could have imagined, and I have zero regrets.
It’s important to me to share my experience with other aspiring authors: taking the less-traveled path doesn’t mean you’ve failed or settled; it means you’ve taken charge of your future and chosen to live by your own rules. With three novels published and a thriving small business where readers can find my books and bookish goodies, I hope my journey inspires other creative souls to follow their own path as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a paranormal fantasy romance author. For me, launching my career meant taking a hands-on approach. I wanted to market myself, champion my stories, and truly understand this industry from the ground up. Though being an author is always a gamble and each book feels like a leap of faith, I believe in my work and encourage other writers to do the same. Success rarely comes with the first book, so persistence and self-belief are vital. If you love what you create, that passion will shine through and connect with readers.
My stories center on couples navigating worlds fraught with political intrigue and occult themes, often embarking on challenging journeys of acceptance and grief. I’m also a Halloween enthusiast to my core, and I’ve joyfully embraced my spooky brand, both in my books and beyond.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d kick off our bookstore crawl at Virginia Highland Books! It is one of my favorite two-story bookshops. Before browsing, we could grab a coffee or matcha from Perc or Kinship Academy just up the street. Pro tip: make sure to go downstairs at Vahi Books, where you’ll find all the classics, manga, and non-fiction treasures!
Next, we’d head east to Eagle Eye in Decatur, a fantastic spot for both new and used books. Since we’re already in Decatur, lunch is a must at Taqueria Del Sol, an Atlanta staple for Tex-Mex eats. My go-to order? A skinny margarita and the fried chicken taco. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, and their specials change every week.
After lunch, we’d stroll over to Decatur Square and pop into Little Shop of Stories, which has a wonderful kids’ section (perfect for young readers or anyone looking for gifts). And of course, no trip to Atlanta is complete without a meal at Ria’s Bluebird, conveniently located across from my favorite Atlanta landmark, Oakland Cemetery.
To round out our adventure, we’d visit All the Tropes, a romance-focused bookstore and a true haven for romance lovers. They have a stellar selection, and the absolute cutest bookstore cat, Draco Meowlfoy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a heartfelt thank you to my husband, Ian, for his unwavering love and support. Being married to a writer who’s always juggling characters, worlds, and plots in her mind isn’t easy, and I’m grateful every day for his patience and encouragement. I’m also deeply thankful for my editor, Emily Golden, who began as my coach and taught me the art and finesse of storytelling. Finally, my thanks go out to my friends, family, and every reader who has cheered me on. Your belief in me means everything.
