We had the good fortune of connecting with Brion Whitley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brion, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important lesson I have learned that has helped me a lot. Do not think about if you want to do something right now, but think about if your future self would want you to do it because you right now it will never be willing to get out of bed and put in the extra work it takes to be great. But if you ask if the version of you 10 years from now, would want you to do it that answer will always be yes!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. I was adopted by the age of four by a white family by the name of the Whitley’s. Growing up, I was in the performing arts schools and performed in place such as grease and footloose. I’ve played basketball since the age of five. I also love to sing and dance. My favorite movie is American gangster, my favorite artist is Rod wave. I am a division, one college basketball player for Southern University in Baton Rouge Louisiana. I am obtaining my masters degree in business administration, and I have an undergraduate degree for Murray State University in communications. also in February 2023 I will be a licensed realtor in the state of Louisiana and then I’ll be obtaining my real estate license in Georgia as well. After I get my masters degree in May, I will be moving to Atlanta Georgia in June to start working as a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual. I also have 200,000 followers on TikTok and 19. 5 thousand followers on Instagram. It was not easy to get where I am at today. It took a lot of hard work on and off the basketball court. I’ve had to understand that basketball was not going to be my main focus in life and prepare for when I am done playing, which I’ve done a good job at. Obviously, there are many challenges when trying to play basketball at a high-level in college, but also be able to secure a good paying job for when you graduate college. One of the main challenges was not having worked in the actual work field. Therefore, I had no experience from different jobs on my résumé so I had to really sell myself when it came to job opportunities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were to visit Baton Rouge, the first place we would go for breakfast would be the ruby slipper. This is my favorite place to go eat in Baton Rouge, because of their amazing omelettes and cinnamon bites. You also can’t come to bed roads without trying the crawfish and I would take you to University seafood where they have juicy spicy crawfish. There are also some nice spots downtown if you wanna go out and have a few drinks! You cannot go to Baton Rouge without also seeing Mike the tiger at LSU and they’re beautiful football stadium at night time. We of course would have to hit a place called main event. Where We can go bowling play, laser tag, and also zip lining! you can also see an old naval battleship that sits at one of our ports here in Baton Rouge but beware it is really hot inside the ship.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents for instilling in me hard work and high character! They were the ones who adopted me when I was four years old, and raise me to be the young man I am today.
