We had the good fortune of connecting with Brink Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brink, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
During my teenage years, I had a fascination with 50 Cent’s work ethic. I remember watching him on an episode of BET Access Granted, and at the very end of the show 50 bragged about in the future there’d be G-Unit Music, G-Unit Clothing, Sneakers, G-Unit Films, G-Unit Books, ETC. I was so enthralled by his ambitious revelation that I proclaimed I would create a Brink version of every skill that I had. I began with Brink Graphics, Brink Photography, Brink T-Shirts, & eventually developed BrinkTV. My most recent creation is Brink Radio. A shorter answer, my father was an entrepreneur when I was growing up so I can be one too. haha
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I produce and host a talk show called BrinkTV on Comcast Memphis, Atlanta, & Mobile Alabama. BrinkTV is an interview based talk show that features music videos & interviews with recording artists, celebrities, entrepreneurs, & people who simply want to tell their story. I have been producing this television series for 10 years, & had the pleasure of working with Stars like Terrence Howard, David Banner, Nicki Minaj, Young Dolph, & Many More. I also produce and host a radio show called Brink Radio on 96.3FM Memphis where I spin the hottest old school hip hop, new school hip hop, indie hip hop, & conduct interviews also. Brink Radio launched June 2023 and has already featured Major Entertainers like NLE Choppa, Crunchy Black of Three 6 Mafia, Judge Joe Brown, & More. What sets my platforms apart from others is our journalistic integrity. Our goal isn’t to sell drama or beef, but to tell a story and make our guests look better than they did before. I am most proud about creating video blog show in my living room that is now being consumed by people all over the world in their living room. I got to where I am today professionally by paying dues in the early days, staying dedicated, & remaining humble. Getting to this point has not been easy, I had to overcome other media outlets attempting to shut me out on celebrity encounters and try to monopolize the indie media industry in Memphis. I am still standing, not sure what happened to the people who attempted to block my shine. I have learned many lessons along the way. Treat people how you want to be treated. Don’t take no for an answer. If told no, Always ask why not, & ask well what can I do. I want the world to know that my brand is solid and continues to grow to greater levels. I thought I was in my prime before… Maybe I’m just getting started.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot right now in Memphis would be Porter Street Bistro. I love there Bistro Burger with beef bacon added. (I’m getting hungry just talking about it). After lunch the botanic gardens is my place of peace. Downtown Memphis is also pretty exciting if you don’t mind alot of walking. When the Memphis Grizzlies are winning, the games are exciting haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my late brother Jeremy Wilson. I wouldn’t be but a fraction of who I am today without him.
