We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridgett Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridgett, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habits I believe that has helped and continues to help me succeed is putting God first in everything that I do. Operating according to godly principles helps keep me focused. It requires me to be fair. It requires me to remain persistent. It reminds me that expectation of success without WORK and/or FAITH will lead to failure.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a designer and creative mastermind, what sets me apart from others is the unique and personalized products that I am able to provide to my clientele. Making things that make others feel unique and special, just the way God created each of us is my signature. Anyone can go to a store and purchase something generic. I choose to provide an experience that will be remembered in addition to a well-made product.
This designer journey has not always been easy. The most difficult challenge is overcoming imposters syndrome and underestimating my talents and abilites. No matter what anyone says to you, your voice inside your head is the closest and loudest. I had to learn who God says I am and remind myself of that constantly.
I have learned along the way that practice doesn’t make perfect but it does guarantee improvement. I have also learned it is okay to say no to a request and or project that does not align with the services you choose to provide.
I want the world first of all to know the brand name TallyMallyDesigns and know that it’s consists of not just artwork but HEARTwork and is done in the spirit of excellence to provide unique products and experiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting me in the Columbia, SC area, I would encourage them to visit Soda City, it’s a beautiful market place downtown where artists and vendors set up and sell. It’s a very unique experience. I would also encourage a visit to the Brazilian steakhouses if they’ve never had that experience. They need to go on an empty stomach. 🙃. We also have many museums that I find interesting. The other thing is Atlanta is just a few hours a way and Charlotte is just a couple. There’s so much to do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I credit my father, the late Rev. Dr. Henry B. Peoples, for introducing me to the world of entrepreneuership at a very young age. He owned a business called Peoples’ Upholstery where he refurbished furniture and made it look fantastic. Although I was young, he found small tasks for me to do such as removing staples, holding the fabric while he ripped the seams etc. It lit a fire that I didn’t recognize until later in life. This fire pushed me to learn how to sew and later design fashion. He also nurtured my faith and assured me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I am also grateful for my husband, Selwyn, who supports me in my entrepreneurial endeavors.
