We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Speller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bridget, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started in the kitchen making my own products through many trials after trials. I truly wanted to learn and understand the products that goes into not only my hair but my daughter’s hair. Because I’m a science girl, I wanted to know which products was naturally best for our hair. What started out as a hobby turned into a business….. a legacy. My daughters were and still are my “Why”. I came to a point where I believe I had the correct formulas. I had about 4 people with different textures try out my products with their honest feedback. On each formula I received great feedback on each one, but everyone voted the “Mint Roots” Collection. After having each personal provide their feedback, I knew this line was something special. I remember my husband and I praying over each detail of the business before starting anything. I later began the steps to launching my Vegan Haircare Brand in October 2020. To see the growth where the company has taken off in less than 2 years is all God.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before coming a entrepreneur, I worked 11 years at Bank of America. Roles From starting from First Mortgage & HELOC Specialist to Sales Support Associate. I have over 3 years of experience in Business Banking, over 4 years in Mortgages & 3 years in financial Banking. I never looked at a 9 to 5 as a bad thing, I knew this was an experience and knowledge I needed to master my craft. Having over 11 years of work experience prepared me for entrepreneurship. I took the time during Covid to really evaluate my life and soul search my purpose. January 2022, I resign from the corporate life to pursue my business as a full time entrepreneur. Let me say it was the best faith decision I could have made. I prayed about it, and God gave me the answer.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Since I’m a foodie, we definitely would hit all the best restaurants in the area.
Then off to some adventurous things like Jumping out of plane lol, hit up a nice lounge that has a good vibe, and a spa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Outside of my husband and I wanting to legacy for our daughters. I want to give credit to Shero’s in Black Women’s History that have impact me which are Harriet Tubman & Madame CJ Walker. I remember growing up I participated in a balck hsitory plan and we all had to choose who we wanted to be. I picked Madame CJ Walker, because I wanted to pick a woman who i was familiar with her story and learn more about her. In researching her, I learned how awesome she was for creating her own and becoming wealthy from her products. I remember saying I want to be a woman like that. Not knowing that I would speak such thing into existence today. I also admire and love me some Harriet Tubman. Her legacy that she left for us not just as Black woman, but for our people as whole to live by and remember. Harriet Turban has inspired me through the her strength & bravery to lead her people to freedom.
