We had the good fortune of connecting with Brickell French and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brickell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After completing my Undergrad Degree from Old Dominion University, like every other grad I was forced to figure out what I wanted to do with life. The thing that brought me the most joy was modeling. Whether it was me modeling or me helping others, I felt that was my purpose in life. I spent many years of unofficially coaching others but it wasn’t until 2019 until I really decided to fully take on the mantel of Coach and start my business, That’s Brickell LLC. I lead with my personal values of positivity, self-worth, respect, freedom, flexibility, faith, peace, and growth. I have been able to help countless men, women, and children with their walk, posing, confidence, and overall industry knowledge. Today I help models learn how to book more modeling gigs without needing to be signed to an agency. I have extended my impact with having my online model coaching program, I am able to reach models all across the U.S. Learn more at www.workwithbrickell.com
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from other model coaches is that I am still an active model. I am able to coach on factual and relevant information. There are many models that are afraid to help another model because “they are competition”. I am proud to say that I can have my own modeling career and still be able to help others in their own journey. Helping them save potential wasted time, money, and energy working towards their goals. Another thing that sets me apart is I do a variety of other things: Spokeswoman for RVA Fashion Week, host, lead actress in an award winning Short Film called “I Should’ve Caught You”, worked in internet radio, and have done marketing voiceovers.
I got to where I am in business by first making a choice, then I let things go that didn’t serve me so I could focus my energy to growing both personally and professionally. I created a vision for myself and continue to show up daily to achieve my goals. Was it easy? Making the choice and creating the vision was easy. The challenging part is having patience and grace for myself. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was my business. I am overcoming these challenges by celebrating my wins along the way and using kind words towards myself. One thing I believe is faith without works is dead and as long as I am sowing seeds and doing what I need to do daily, I leave the rest to God.
One thing I want the world to know is that there is no shame in taking time to heal and get your mind right. In order to really move forward and reach goals you will need the right mindset and surround yourself with people that support your growth.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places I would take my friend would be the Richmond Wine Station, the Canal Walk, Wine tasting at Coopers Hawk, Shopping at a couple boutiques and consignments, relax at Belle Isle, eat at Post Bella, Havana 59, Shrimp Island Company, and Mama J’s.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many key people that have supported me along my journey to success, too many to name however each truly mean the world to me! I want to give special recognition and dedicate this shoutout to the members of my accountability group, The 6 Figure Safari Sisters, that show up for me and each other daily to offer support, resources for my business and personal life, true sisterhood, love, and encouragement. We are all black women entrepreneurs that each bring something different and are in a mutual inner circle program via The Client Attraction University. Big thanks to these women: Tiarra Taylor, Dr. Stevii Aisha Mills, Riahna Edwards, Katina Blondie Lockart, Alex Merritt, Elisha Monique, Mary Mae, Coach April, Lorentine Savoy, Morenike Williams, Jeanne LoVette, Renee Small, Alexis Galloway, Lanisha H, Denise Ziegler, DeEtta Roberson-Carter, and Dr Princess Briggs.
