We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind AUC J’ouvert’s success is the desire to educate our people about Caribbean culture. Bringing J’ouvert to the Atlanta University Center has broaden the perspectives of West Indian heritage amongst many students and has even allowed some to find a new love for the culture with a deeper understanding. When discerning “black culture” at HBCU’s, African and Caribbean culture play a pivotal and indispensable role.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Originally started by 4 Morehouse College students known as Island Massive, AUC J’ouvert has been successfully orchestrated at Morehouse college for the past 6 years. Attendees of AUC J’ouvert are over 2000 students of prestigious institutions of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Consisting of AUC students (Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark-Atlanta University),Georgia State University, Georgia Tech University, Emory University, Agnes-Scott University, as well as colleges from all over the nation. AUC J’ouvert has become the hub for the caribbean collegiate experience. With it’s growing presence, AUC J’ouvert has even engrossed groups of people from various parts of the nation flying in from New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and even Texas!

To build our brand today, it has been a long journey but we continue to overcome any obstacles that come our way. We want to leave our legacy within Atlanta and hope to continue to grow within the next few years.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
