We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, why did you pursue a creative career?
I wrote my first song in middle school. It was not a particularly good song but it did plant a seed that would fuel my music career. I started diving deeper into songwriting and would write all the time. It felt so cathartic. I fell in love with the process of it, combining lyrics, chords, and melodies to express stories and emotions.. to then have that combination connect with someone and resonate… I was hooked and knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. So, with that feeling, when high school graduation came, it felt like a seamless, given decision I was going to pursue music as my career. I couldn’t, and still can’t, imagine doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a songwriter, artist, and producer currently based in Nashville, TN. My love for music started with writing. I have been a credited writer on releases from Jenny Baker, Davin Kingston, Jordan Armstrong, Emma Charles, Henry Gritton, and more. I’m proud to say those released cuts have curated a total of over 1 million streams.

As much as I love writing for others, I also love releasing music as an artist. From the WANDERER EP to my last two singles, “I Just Remembered, I Forgot” and “Blue”, it’s been such a beautiful experience bringing my artistic vision to life and seeing others connect and resonate with these songs.

In this season of my artist journey, the songs I’ve been writing have been ones that make me feel ok about being myself. I’ve found myself healing, nurturing, and accepting parts of me that were not always accepted, validated, or truly loved by others. I am so excited about this next batch of music. It feels like my most personal work yet.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been in Nashville for about two years now and still feel like I am discovering my favorites! But so far… some of my favorite restaurants are Pharmacy, Il Forno, Sam & Zoes, and Oku. I am a morning coffee run lover and my go-to’s are Red Bicycle, Humphrey’s, Well Coffeehouse, and 8th & Roast. For hang/bar scene I love GreenHouse, Bastion, and Dino’s. Also special shoutout to Sweet Dots for having great boba. And finally, since I am a woo-woo girly at heart I have to recommend going to Nashville Crystal Store for stone/crystal shopping and Tertiary Sight to get your Aura Photo taken.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a couple of people I would like to shout out… first being my loved ones. I am beyond grateful to have a supportive family and partner. They have always been in my corner cheering me on. This isn’t an easy industry, and not having their support would’ve made it that much harder, so a big shoutout to my Mom, Dad, Danielle, Avery, and my partner Chris <3

I studied Songwriting at Berklee College of Music. I know for a fact my writing would not be what it is without that program. I studied with Pat Pattison, Bonnie Hayes, Kara Diaguardi, Susan Cattaneo, Scarlet Keys, Erin Barra, and more. I developed my craft and learned so much during my time there. Pat’s books gave me tools I will use forever. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to incubate there as a writer for a couple of years.
