We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Briana, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
I decided while I was pregnant with my baby girl Isabella, that I wanted to do nails . During the pandemic , I decided I wanted to go to beauty school to obtain my nail license. During that time, I sacrificed time with my baby girl she was shuttling back and forth between Florida and Georgia with her two grandmothers . At the time I lived in Albany, GA and we just couldn’t afford daycare, my husband was in the marine corps at the time , it was truly a struggle . One grandmother lived in Atlanta (my husbands mother) and the other lived in Tampa, FL (my mother) . That sacrifice truly broke my heart I felt like I was missing everything , but I am so thankful for them both . The time I spent away from my baby girl I was able to finish school , and obtained my license . I had to keep telling myself my baby is small and she won’t remember this .
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am all for challenges so one thing I can say about my art , I love to go out of comfort zone . When I started doing nails I started with the hard stuff first . I’m extremely precise and consider myself a perfectionist I want every client leaving my chair satisfied and genuinely happy that they came to see me . I purposefully wear long nails to showcase my art work , and still manage to efficiently do nails . I forced myself to use my non dominant hand as well . I try to refrain from being just like everyone else what sets me apart is I’m always up for something new & different .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came in town I would definitely take her to brunch at 10th and Piedmont or fins and feathers best places I’ve been to so far . I would also show her around Atlantic station , and take some cute pictures out there .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my family , and close friends . My friend Shanun Evans , without her I would’ve never finished school she taught me everything and got me through state board. My mother and father Troy and Madeline Stephens with their endless support with my daughter , and even bought me a nail drill for my birthday . My mother-in-law Barbara Beauford, for helping with my daughter and encouraging me to continue with my dreams of being a nail technician even brought me nail supplies as well . My sisters Skye , Selena , and my sister-in-law Taylor Beauford . My husband Decharri Taylor Wright for riding with me throughout this journey . And to all of the people who supported me in Albany, GA . My first client Kaitlyn Struthers , and her continued support . My friends, Jennifer Ramirez, Alex, Samuel and Jasmin .
