We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Christopher Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We only get “one lap” around this track called life. We don’t even know how long (or short) that lap may be. LIVING life means gaining as much knowledge and exposure to the things you want to become, and the person you are called to BE. The BE part is where I believe the risk comes into play. Fear is the serial killer of dreams, goals, and purpose. Fear has tried to hold me many times when it came to stepping out and going for it. I haven’t won every battle against fear, but the many battles I have won, I did it in the face of fear. Every risk I have taken, I have stepped to it with some level of being afraid. Afraid of failure, embarrassment, questions of do I really know what I’m doing, what will others think? I learned over time to flip those thoughts. I realized others don’t “think” as deeply as I gave them credit for! I learned to rely on the greatness inside that has been cultivated through experiences. Instead of harping on the possibility of failure, I began to instead ask what if I WIN!! My very first paid video gig was with comedian Chris Tucker over 20 years ago when he was fresh off of the Rush Hour films and all kinds of other dopeness! That was a HUGE risk for me. It was a risk to present my clothing line to Spike Lee from an audience mic in front of thousands when he specifically said no questions or comments about business! We ended up with pictures of him with our products, and a huge cosign from him! It was a risk leaving a dream job I worked for a decade doing video production/audio/graphic design for a GLOBAL brand and personality, to instead work more hands on with my children’s careers, and launch deeper into to business with my wife… but here we are! Risk is the sling-shot out of the comfort zone!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I loved playing football. I played from 5th grade through 8th in a pee-wee league. When I got to 9th grade things changed drastically for me. As much as I loved football, I also loved being “social”. Instead of doing homework, I would go to the park and play spades. Instead of going to class, we hung in the neighborhood until school let out. Once the final bell rung we would make an appearance to say hey to the girls we liked. (My now wife can vouch for this!) As imagined my grades reflected this way of life, and I became ineligible to play football. One day on a rare occasion my coach caught me in the main hallway of the high school. He said “Lane.. get to my office I need a favor”. We arrived at his office and he grabbed a large black hard suitcase from behind his desk. He said “since you can’t play right now, I have a new job for you. I want you to take this video camera to the top of the stands, and record the games for us”. I opened the case and found a huge camera, with a full sized VHS tape inside. (The kind VCR’s take). 25 years ago I started video taping high school football games. I had no idea I’d just been introduced to the life long passion of visual story-telling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is tough because the same things we do for work is what we do for fun! We’re shooting video, recording music, or planning our next creative project! So really, other than the cigar lounges me and the fellas check out, the best I can do is call my cousin Chip, and ask him where to go!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The writing was on the wall… literally. Creatively, I am the perfect storm of my parents Reginald and Deborah Lane. My sister Adrian, and I grew up in a household where creativity was at the center of our everyday being. We were actually allowed to draw murals, and paint on our bedroom walls! My dad is an amazing fine artist, who’s attention to detail is out of this world. My mom is a free flowing, passionate storyteller who’s words would keep us on the edge of our seats as if we were at the movie theater. She also held a camera in her hand my entire life; capturing and documenting moments through photo and video. My story is the evolution of my parents story. I am grateful.
