We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian “B-Rock” Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian “B-Rock”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started out as an elementary PE teacher but after our second child was born, I knew I wouldn’t be a teacher forever.  I was asked to DJ a party, and from that party someone asked me to DJ once again.   From that moment I knew I wanted to bring joy to the world by being part of people’s celebrations! This business arrangement also allowed me to become a Stay-at-home Dad with our two kids and work on the weekends. I love music, I love people, and I love helping give people a party to remember, and so began the beginning’s of my company, B-Rockin’ Parties.

What should our readers know about your business?
My goal with B-Rockin Parties is to be a DJ like no other and to give an experience that is unique and special. What sets me apart from other DJs is my interaction with the crowd/client and my personality. I love to play games so one of my favorite events to do is a kid’s birthday party. When parents book me they don’t just get music they get someone who is going to help run the party so they don’t have to worry about entertaining lots of kids. I run lots of “minute to win it” type games and different contests throughout the party so the kids have lots of things to do while at a B-Rockin Party. The second thing is I love to dance, I’m not that good at it but I can get out there and help break the ice to bring people on the dance floor. I had a great transition into this business because as a PE teacher I had over 900 families that already knew me so when they heard I was in the DJ business they knew who they were getting when they booked me for an event. I have learned several lessons in the 7 years I have been a DJ. I know to ask lots of questions before taking a party. I have learned what events I am good at and what events I need to stay away from. I have also learned that every party is different and to be as flexible with the client as possible to ensure a great time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love The Battery and The Atlanta Braves, so I would take them to Superica or Sports and Social before we headed to the Braves game. We are season ticket subscribers and love going to see the Braves play. Our kids are 9 and 6 and have already been to more games than I went to as a kid. I also love downtown Roswell and would take them to LOLA’s or Moxie Burger before we went on a hike down by the river at the Roswell Mill.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was first getting started I had the opportunity to pick the brains of two fantastic DJs who helped get me set up with equipment/software/run of show/best practices and more. I would love to credit Steve Bond and Ben Needle for their guidance. I also want to thank my wife, Joni Adams, for believing in me and taking a leap of faith with me as I quit my steady and reliable job to do something that wasn’t as steady as we were used to. My parents, Mike and Cay Adams also encouraged and helped with supplying equipment needs in the beginning!
