Meet Brian and Erin Mooney | Catering Business Owner and Restaurant Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian and Erin Mooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian and Erin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We wanted to take the chance to have freedom of creating something for ourselves. We had a determination and a dream of what the business could potentially be. We are both dreamers and trust God with our lives. We wanted to create a work environment for others that would be positive and inviting.

What should our readers know about your business?
We created Tre Luna Catering in 2013. We bought an existing catering company and Tre Luna Catering Co. was born January 14, 2014.
It began in South Florida, where Brian attended Culinary School and Erin worked in the service industry. Together, they developed and cultivated their dream of a catering business. 16 years later, Tre Luna was born. It was named for Brian and Erin’s “Three Moons” – their three children. Tre Luna is not only their dream, it’s also their family.
Tre Luna is a unique, family owned catering company in Birmingham delivering professional services for any occasion from start to finish. With over twenty years of culinary and event experience, our team knows how to create an unforgettable occasion for you and all your guests. We provide personal service for events of all sizes.
Our restaurant was born in May of 2019. We are an Italian inspired space designed to enjoy food and drinks. Nestled in The Village at Brock’s Gap, we offer an upscale experience with a neighborhood feel.
It has not been an easy road. We have worked hard to be where we are today. We have learned so many valuable lessons. We always try to stay teachable and willing with open hearts to hear the voices of our customers and employees.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would have them stay at the Grand Bohemian or the Elyton Hotel. I would tell them to grab lunch at Johnny’s in Homewood. Eat dinner at Jinsei, Chez Fon Fon, Automatic Seafood, Helen, Bottega Cafe and of course Tre Luna Bar and Kitchen. I would tell them try to visit the Lyric Theatre or the Alabama Theatre and Barons Baseball field.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We both come from hard working families that instilled in us the importance of a strong work ethic. We were inspired by both our fathers for the lives they created for our families growing up. My father worked in the railroad business and Brian’s the airport business. They both were a huge influence to us. Both of my grandfathers were small business owners.
Our faith is also our basis and reason for our business. Brian always says, trust in God, he has not dropped us yet! We try to pause before reacting and wait for more to be revealed.
