We had the good fortune of connecting with Breyan Samuels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breyan, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Growing up, I used to sit in my granny’s salon and watch her use Marcel irons. I thought that was all there was to doing hair, so I never wanted to become a cosmetologist. As I got older, I realized there were so many ways to create a business in the hair industry, whether it was old school with French rolls or finger waves, or new school with locs, hair extensions, or braids.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I decided to start cosmetology school in 2019, which is when I knew I wanted to become a braider. I started out braiding my own hair as a self-taught braider, and I take a lot of pride in being able to share my talents with others. What sets me apart from others is that I include a relaxing shampoo and condition with every service. The lessons I’ve learned along the way aren’t just from my own experience but from hearing clients’ experiences with other stylists—one wrong move can be detrimental to your business, and it may be hard to come back and rebrand. That’s why I strive to provide quality service to every client.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Monday: Visit the World of Coca-Cola Tuesday: Explore the Georgia Aquarium
Wednesday: Spend the day at the Atlanta Zoo
Thursday: Enjoy a treat at Cheesecaked
Friday: Catch a baseball game
Saturday: Have fun at Spin Art Atlanta
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to express my gratitude to my family and my boyfriend Malik for supporting my move from Arkansas to Atlanta and encouraging me to continue my braiding career.
