We had the good fortune of connecting with Breshayla Singleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breshayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I was scared. I didn’t know what to expect, I’m an introvert and was very timid at the time. I didn’t know where to start and how to start but I decided to start anyway. There were months that I had just one to two clients. There were times I wanted to give up but my future wouldn’t allow me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the owner of Shayla Allure Artistry and I’m makeup artist in the Montgomery and Pike Road, AL area. I’ve been in the makeup industry for 2 years and I specialize in soft glam makeup. What sets me apart from other makeup artist is my zen vibe and style of makeup.

I got where I am today just by having faith. When you want to start something you just have to start. I feel as if waiting for the right time is time wasted, just start! I invested into my business by buying a class, better products, marketing tools, and supplies. Starting any business isn’t easy, it takes hard work, dedication and sometimes sleepless nights. Sometimes you may feel like you won’t to give up but I believe you’ll always return to something you’re passionate about. The lessons I learned as a young entrepreneur is to just keep going and don’t compare your business to others and everyone won’t support. Sometimes family won’t support your business but that doesn’t mean you give up, don’t! Your family isn’t your target audience. Pray over yourself and your business and continue to have faith!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely go downtown Montgomery and explore restaurant options but everything isn’t new to me and my city isn’t that big so there isn’t many fun places to visit in my opinion.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I would love to give God, my spirit team, my family and my clients credit because I wouldn’t be here without them. The support I have received from my family and Fiancé is amazing. I first started taking clients at my grandparents house then my cousin’s shop, “Spoiled Hair Bar” and now I have a beautiful makeup studio setup at my parent’s house. I would also like to give a shoutout to my amazing assistant, she makes sure that I’m up to date with the latest ideas and trends.
