Meet Breona Herring: Cheesecaker & Entreprenuer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breona Herring and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breona, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted to “Be My Own Boss”, while I like to have the structure that comes with working a 9-5, I absolutely love the autonomy that comes with working for myself. The concept of BreezKakes just came about. I would always bake mini cheesecakes and share them with my family and friends for free. I realized that this is something I enjoy doing, it allows me to be creative in my own way, it is unique and gives me the opportunity to give back to and create jobs for my community. Why not create my own business baking cheesecakes?? I knew this would be a hard road to go down as I am constantly learning new things daily about business and operating a business. The hard road is worth it to me because I am in the process of building generational wealth for my family and I am seen as an inspiration to others who know my story.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I bake mini cheesecakes in a variety of flavors. BreezKakes are not your average cheesecake. BreezKakes are baked fresh with quality ingredients sourced from local grocers. Their light creamy texture will have your taste buds soaring! Experience all of our individual kake flavors. The toppings do not make the kake flavor the kake IS the flavor. The best part is each of our cheesecakes are not too rich in sugar. Just enough to provide the sweet bang in each bite! Their small size is perfect to buy as a treat for yourself or as a gift to others.

I am most proud of the success BreezKakes has obtained thus far. The feedback and support from kakers has been amazing!! I most excited about going down the path of entrepreneurship full time as I have recently decided to let go of my corporate job. I can not wait to see the future of BreezKakes!!

I’ve gotten where I am today personally and professionally by experiencing life, taking risks and exercising great Faith in GOD. Also, having a positive mindset have gotten me as far as I have. Definitely has not been easy. I constantly have internal battles and question myself with certain decisions that have been made but God always reassures me that I have made the best decision for any situation I have come across.

Some lessons I have learned along the way is that a NO is just redirection. A NO is a new opportunity to find a new way to get to my destination on this journey called life. I’ve learned that with each experience there is something to gain; new knowledge and insight. However, it is up to you how you decide to process the experience. I’ve learned that it is better to take risks (smart calculated risks) than to not take any at all. Growth comes from discomfort. If you are comfortable you are not growing. Do what’s best for you. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you will not be able to give your best to your work, family or friends.

My brand is about presenting a unique concept with the best quality in a tiny package. BreezKakes aims to give each kaker (customer) a great customer service experience. You will want to tell your friends about us, We bring nothing but good vibes!

As far as my story goes, I want the world to know that you can do it if you set your mind to it. As a single mom of two daughters I have still been able to achieve whatever goal I set for myself because I believed that I can. Always think outside of the box, life is better that way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot is definitely my house with my bf and kids but when I do decide to go out and explore the city I love to go walk around Piedmont Park. My favorite restaurant to eat at is La Hacienda. However, some other great spots to check out that I have been to recently would be Nick’s Westside, The Whiskey Bird, First Watch, Two Urban Licks and BarTaco. To go shopping I tend to go to Perimeter Mall or Mall of GA. If you like outdoor markets and are an early bird, come visit BreezKakes on Saturdays at Brookhaven Farmers Market from 9a-12p.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I’d like to give thanks to GOD, without Him I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would also like to shoutout my boyfriend, brother, mom, dad, all of my best friends, business mentor and all of my kakers (customers) for their constant support of BreezKakes! Thank you!
