We had the good fortune of connecting with Brentia Caldwell, Ed.S., LPC, NCC, ACS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brentia, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business helps the community by providing quality, affordable counseling services via Telehealth and in-person for the metro Atlanta area. It promotes the mental and emotional well-being of a population that is increasing in interest and need for mental health services and support.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Up Center, LLC is a great place to come “get your SHIFT together!” It’s a hip, counseling setting where we challenge counterproductive thinking and behavior in the efforts of assisting clients with their “shift” to be their best selves…whatever that means for them. Getting The Up Center started had its challenges, nothing unique to any entrepreneurial effort. However, with great support and realistic goal setting, we are still thriving and changing lives! I have learned to be patient, find a balance between charity and coins (haha!), and understand the absolute necessity of bossing up. I want the world to know that mental wellness is crucial overall wellness and that it can be accomplished through intentionality and self-work. These components can be fine tuned and shined up at The Up Center!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hang Out: East Atlanta Village (I’m a slight hipster…haha), Downtown Decatur, and Kirkwood Eat: Supremo Taco, EAV Thai, Po’ Boy Shop, Grindhouse Burgers, El Myriacha, Green Ginger, Ms. Icey’s Kitchen Drinks: Blu Cantina, Republic Social House, Hudson, Corner Tavern Anything ratchet with a touch of class and light crowds! 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I honestly would like to shout out my parents for being The Bomb! I have always been an independent, self-starter and my parents pretty much allowed me to be that my WHOLE life. 🙂 I also want to give a shout out to Ruby Blow, who was my licensure supervisor. She has been an incredible influence on my counseling career, as she has encouraged me to be my eccentric, outspoken, Aquarian self while staying ethical and super BLACK! Haha!
