We had the good fortune of connecting with Bree Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bree, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I’ve made for myself was choosing myself. Choosing myself looked like me leaving an unhealthy marriage despite the fear of starting over, the opinions of others, and the worry about whether or not I had made the right decision for me and my children. Choosing me meant that I would now do everything I could to create a life I could be proud of, and to leave a legacy for my children. Choosing me also meant I would make an intentional decision to prioritize my mental health and to cultivate healthy relationships.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Black Coffee Culture, LLC exists to provide coaching, educational training and workshops to empower, equip, and educate leaders and professionals about the importance of prioritizing their mental health and cultivating healthy relationships. I also provide one-to-one coaching to moms who want to reclaim their identity, prioritize their needs, and confidently show up in their lives and relationships.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’m a living testimony to my clients, so I am able to teach from personal experience. I’m able to relate to my clients on a deeper level because, at one point, I was them. I’ve built my business after overcoming one of the most painful times of my life. But, I used it as an opportunity to recreate a life I loved. I got here by being authentic, showing up consistently, taking risks, investing in myself, and through a lot of relationship building.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I would take my best friend to a few hangout spots here in the city. We consider ourselves to be foodies, so we like to take advantage of the best food spots. We would start our morning at Breakfast at Barney’s. Then, I would have to take her to Bar Vegan AND Slutty Vegan. Since we enjoy working out, we would ride bikes along the Atlanta Beltline and venture out into Piedmont Park.

Poor Calvin’s is another spot we would visit as they have an amazing menu and food selection. For a taste of the nightlife, I would take her to APT 4B for great food and music. Since she enjoys shopping, we would visit Ponce City Market. Last, but not least, we would visit the Trap Music Museum, and Hippin Hops Brewery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I have an entire support system who’ve encouraged, listened, and supported me on this journey. I would definitely like to dedicate this shout to my mother and stepfather for being my number fans, the caretakers of my children, and the extra push I needed when late nights ran into early mornings while working on my business.

I would also like to shout out to my brother and his fiancee, Shannon, for believing in the vision that I set forth, and for doing everything they could to help me execute events. My cousin Lamar has provided me with much insight about life lessons.

I am appreciative of my father’s outpour of support, and inspiration. Last, but certainly not least, I am truly thankful for my best friend turned sister, Brittany who has continued to be a listening ear and a source of ingenuity. My friends Taneshia and Jackee have offered an overflow of perspective and love as I’ve pushed through personal and professional hurdles.
