We had the good fortune of connecting with Breana Jeanfaivre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breana, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Getting into a steady routine and staying organized has definitely been a lifesaver for me. As a photographer and business owner, it can get very easy to get into a rut of going through your day to day but not having a schedule. At the beginning of each week, especially when I know that I have a lot coming up, I always start a to-do list. I list out my to-do’s for each day and the feeling of crossing off each task once it is completed is so incredibly satisfying. I will admit, it is harder for me to set aside time for myself each day to just relax, but that is something I am trying to be better at. Success isn’t measured by the amount of money that you make or the amount of sessions that you book. To me, being a successful photographer is about creating relationships with my clients and capturing beautiful photos for them that will last a lifetime.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photography to me isn’t just about taking authentic photos, but it’s about creating a relationship with my couples and families. I love what I do because I get to meet the most amazing people who are just so in love, so happy and so kind. As a photographer, it is sometimes difficult to standout from others in the area; especially in Atlanta where there are so many incredibly talented photographers! Finding my style and serving my clients in a way that brings them joy and happiness when they look back at their photos is what I try to accomplish to set myself apart from others.
I take pride in the experience that I provide my clients with. A session isn’t just a photo session, think of it as a fun date night with me as your third wheel! I’m not the type where I’m going to give you a bunch of poses that I found off of the internet and make you feel awkward. I love to interact with my couples, play music, and allow them to just be themselves and in the moment. I always find it so funny when I get to a session with a couple and they always say how uncomfortable and awkward they are going to be and then they CRUSH their sessions!!! Being able to laugh and have fun with my couples and families is exactly why I started doing this in the first place.
The road to get to where I am today was not easy by any means, nothing is. It took a lot of hard work, research, late night editing, hours & days of brainstorming ideas, and connecting with the photography community around me. The hardest part of this journey was starting and getting myself out there. I was so nervous to create a platform to show my work because I wasn’t sure what kind of response I would receive. It took me months to finally post my website because I was afraid of what people would say or if anyone would even look at it! I receive an overwhelming amount of inquires from my website every week and every time I see an email from my form submission on my website, I smile so hard and laugh at the thought that I ever doubted myself and my ability to do this!
When you’re building your own business from absolutely nothing, there are so many lessons to be learned along the way and I have definitely learned them. Some lessons were learned the hard way and some the easy way. I’ve learned to stand by my work and what I am putting out there. Not every photographer does things the same way and that’s something I have learned to tell myself. This is my business and my passion and in the beginning it was very easy to doubt myself and compare my work to others, but now I support and grow with the photography community in Atlanta and cheer on my fellows photogs! I have met so many talented people in this last year and a half that have helped me grow and have been such a great support system during this crazy journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is fun!! I always have friends and family in town so I love taking them in and out of the little cities that Atlanta has to offer. I should start off by saying how much I love food. I love to eat around ATL and try fun new spots with yummy food and pretty views! To start off a weekend in town, I love bringing my friends to Ponce City Market (I know, everyone goes there but it’s an Atlanta staple.) Ponce is a great spot to bring guests because they have such a variety of food choices so not everyone has to eat at the same spot! My guilty pleasure is Five Daughters Bakery, I could probably eat a dozen donuts at a time. After checking out Ponce, I love to walk along the Belt Line or even rent a Bird scooter. Those things are so fast!! While down in that area, I always make it a point to drive by Jackson Street Bridge and stop for a photo-op; definitely a top instagram spot. Another fun spot that I love in the city is Hotel Clermont. I love to grab a drink and show off the city views on the rooftop.
I live in Marietta and right down the street from Marietta Square, so that is always a fun place to bring my friends! On the weekend they usually have a little farmers market so I love to check that out and pick up some local flowers & see what fun foods they have to offer! My favorite restaurant in the square is Taqueria Tsunami so I almost always go there when people are in town! The square is an awesome place to walk around and window shop because they have the cutest boutiques and a fun little candy shop with all different candies and sodas! Another must in Marietta is Frankies Italian Restaurant. Their food is so fresh and authentic, it is delicious!
About 45 minutes north of Marietta is a super cute vineyard called Big Door Vineyards. That is always a beautiful spot to check out and grab a wine slushy. It’s right outside of Woodstock so you definitely would not expect a winery to be up there! Of course, Dahlonega is the place to be when we have wine lovers in town. We love to check out the different wineries up that way and then stop by the outlets on the way home!
I could go on and on about the different spots and foods to try in and around Atlanta, but those are just some of my favorites! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I know this is probably the most cliche shoutout ever, but my hubby really deserves a million and one shoutouts. I have no idea where I would be in my business without him. Literally, he is the one who bought me my first camera! He is my constant support system, accountant, open ear for advice and ideas, and my shoulder to cry on when I am having just a busy and stressful week. He always knows how to bring me back to up from the slumps when I feel doubtful in my work and can always hype me up for each session that I have. For someone like him who doesn’t know the first thing about photography, he is a fabulous assistant. I love you babe, thanks for everything that you do for this little biz of mine!
