We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Nair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began my business, Notebooks and Coffee in 2020. It originally started as helping out a business colleague with administrative tasks virtually because he was short-staffed. I then grew into a small business over the next two years. I quit my job as a marketing director for a non-narcotic pain management facility located in Morgantown, WV.- to grow my virtual business which would allow me to be home with my daughter full time, which was a dream of mine. I was able to supplement my income within a few short months.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have to say – I have fought so very hard to be where I am today. Let me start by saying when I was growing up my mom was a single mom and worked 100 hours a week to allow me to have the best of things and while that was awesome I truly missed her and 1-on-1 time. When I had my daughter, I had this huge fear of missing out on things. I’m not sure if this had to do with my upbringing, postpartum, or anxiety but I didn’t want to miss anytime I had with her. I was determined to make an income and be with her – and that’s exactly what I did. It was not easy, I took a huge pay cut, and I was figuring out the business world, networking, and developing a brand all while being a mom to an infant at the same time. I remember bringing my daughter to business meetings and praying things would go ok so I didn’t lose a potential client or answering calls and trying to make sure she didn’t cry in the background – it was very hard and challenging at some point but I’m so glad I never gave up because I’m here now.

My brand speaks for itself – I want to help other business owners get their time back- whether they choose to spend it with family or elsewhere at least they get a choice.

I am also developing a course for other moms/dads to be able to start their own VA business as well – there is such a huge demand for VA’s crazy. I want to help other people who have a story like mine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I joined this amazing BNI chapter located in Morgantown, WV called the Excellence Chapter. This is the best group of people I have truly ever been around. It was so much more the networking, it was another family. They saw my determination within my other position so once I mentioned starting my own business they were 100% right behind me and never let me give up. Also my daughter and husband. My daughter gave me the determination to find something that I was passionate about all while being there for her 24/7, while my husband stood behind me the entire way even with things got rough. I appreciate all of them so much!
