We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Boyce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My interest in becoming an entrepreneur mirrored the strong black women in my family who owned businesses and/or worked in retail management for decades. My great grandmother Mrs. Frances Percy owned and operated a neighborhood convenience store for 20 plus years in Norfolk, Virginia. My grand mother Mrs. Pearl Barge owned and operated Pearl’s Record Bar in Norfolk and my mother and father were retail managers for major corporate entities in Norfolk as well, so my interest in starting my own business was based on my family’s experiences as well as my own.

I was interested in serving as a reliable and trustworthy source for notary services in under served communities and more broadly, to share my interest in “Building Generational Wealth” through financial services and life insurance. I initially started on this journey as a Notary, later earning my license as an Insurance Broker and Funeral Funding Specialist. During this process I met many potential clients from all walks of life who lacked in-depth knowledge about how to build wealth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
“I was taught to always be kind to others regardless of status or position in life and that approach established my road map for success, and that is how I live my life.” My professional career has primarily been in the customer service industry with interest in building excellent relations and assisting clients with difficult tasks. My focus is always on their needs reassuring them that there are good-hearted people in this industry. As an Army brat we moved every 3-4 years to new assignments requiring that my Mom and I become adaptable to changing environments, finding new jobs, leaving old friends/family and learning the importance of fostering good relationships with others in Houston, TX, Orlando, FL, Atlanta, GA and of course Norfolk, VA.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being an International city, I’d take them to my favorite restaurant Houston’s, Little Five Points for an eclectic bohemian vintage shopping experience, the Village Coffee House also in Five Points, the Atlanta University Center (Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spellman College) for the academically oriented and three of the nation’s premier Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the Martin Luther King Center, to name a few of my favorite places to showcase to visitor’s. Atlanta has a huge music scene, so we’d check out a concert at The Tabernacle or The Variety Playhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There wouldn’t be a Brandy’s Notary and Financial Group without my support system who consists of my Husband, Rendell Boyce and my beautiful parents, LaVerne and Ellsworth Mayfield. I would also be remiss if I did not mention my most loyal friends Jasmine McClendon and Jay Green-Reese. They have always believed in me and recognized my untapped potential.
