We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Whitley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, how do you think about risk?
Risk is always a component to anything worth going after. But when it comes to music, of course the risk is there and its massive, but still it has never been a real factor for me. Never a consideration, really. Music is just what I want to do. So nothing else every really made sense. So I don’t really think of it as risk, but rather “this is just what I’m doing. What do I do next in order to proceed?” And with that, I just try my best to listen to God and follow that guidance and have it to fall back on no matter what.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always thought it was a fun challenge to take the elements of what might be popular in a genre of music, and kind of mold that into what I like to do personally. At the end of the day, I am a Blues/rock fan and guitarist. I think the best in that sort of world, but I am playing and writing country music. As I grow in that, I learn more about what makes country music tick (which I have long since become a fan of as well), and I can sort of put all of those elements together in a way that it might produce some music that I might like to hear as a fan. Not everything works every time, but you just keep plugging away and hearing “no” until eventually you hopefully find the right formula to get a “yes” or two. And doing it this way ensures I’m really playing music that at the end of the day, I love and enjoy, and I hope others will too. I’ve learned that as long as you keep pushing and expanding your view, you will eventually get there. Just keep pushing and following what God has for you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being in Nashville these days, you definitely have to take them out to Broadway and see all of the bands. It really is cool to see a different band in every bar everywhere you can walk. If I’m in Atlanta, then Definitely going to Iron Age. Korean BBQ is on a different level.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God is really the number 1. He offers the best guidance and is the true one setting me up for any success, connecting the dots, and moving this thing. I just hit guitar strings and yell into a microphone at the end of the day. I have been able to network and meet so many great people who have been key. In that would definitely Be Stan Truitt from TruMuzik and Devyn Stephens in UpFrontMegatainment. Those guys really connect a lot of dots as well and allow me to stay focused on writing songs and preforming. Its really been an awesome team.
