We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Theus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first thought of starting Reflections Cleaning of Atlanta, I was working for a bigger cleaning company. I was quickly disappointed in how they handled their business. It wasn’t what or how I envisioned a service being ran. Basically every job I had before, I had gone into management so I knew I could figure it out and be successful. I saw the potential in being able to do what I love, make my own schedule and support my family.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been cleaning houses for 7 years now. It’s been a wild ride but most of clients I have today have been with me from the beginning. Most of my clients have basically become family. They support me so openly and it means everything to me. They’ve watched me grow while I’ve watched them grow.
A little over two years ago, I lost my grandmother. It broke me. A few months later I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome. That flipped everything upside down, I was trying to navigate how to continue doing such a strenuous job while living with chronic pain. For whatever reason, I started getting into houseplants as a way of therapy. I fell in love fast. I started helping my cleaning clients with their house plants. I started selling some of my plants to help fund my huge collection and fell in love with the plant community. I saw the potential in selling houseplants and accessories at vendor markets and sharing the ever growing knowledge. I have kept the two businesses hand in hand because together they complete me. Cleaning is just as therapeutic for me as taking care of plants and watching the growth. I have a full schedule of amazing cleaning clients that have given me the authority over their plants and have a full houseplant business with vendor markets almost every weekend during the warmer months. I also recently opened a booth at the Painted Tree in Snellville to grow my plant business. I’ve bad to cut the cleaning schedule back to a more manageable workload because of the chronic pain and hoping the plant side will help fill in the gaps. It’s been very hard over the years navigating all of this but I’m proud that I’m still here, I’m still pushing and I refuse to let the pain stop me from the things that I love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When you’re asking this to a crazy plant lady, it’s hard to think about anything besides going to nurseries or a Plant Friends plant sale.
We would have to go to a KPOT restaurant and probably to Sparkles for some skating! I’m a people pleaser so I would make sure we went to shops that has things that matched the visitors vibes! Yellow River Animal Sanctuary and the Aquarium are also a must do!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is my motivation. I’ve been married for 12 years and we have a 10 year old son. My husband Sam worked hard to allow me to be a stay at home mom for four years with me son. He completely supported me starting my cleaning business. When it came it the plants, it took some convincing but he sees how happy it makes me and that’s all that matters. He supports all of my crazy decisions and knows I will find a way to make it successful if it’s something I am passionate about. My son Landon loves to joke about how many plants I have but is proud to tell people his mom runs two businesses by herself!
