We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi.jae H and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi.jae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to use the skills I’ve learned working in my career to do something I love. My main reason for wanting to work for myself is freedom. A lot of jobs do not allow you to have the freedom to do things you actually like to do. I am a creative at heart so having work-life balance is important to me and the creative process.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a self taught culinary artist and food photographer. I was first intrigued by cooking in middle school, even earning the “outstanding cooking student” award in 7th grade. In high school, I discovered that I took a liking to photography while taking a photography class as an elective. During quarantine in 2020, I decided to start cooking and sharing to social media, ultimately falling in love with it once again. In early 2021, my interest the photography element of social media posting increased, and I decided to pick up a professional camera to display my food to the world. Food photography came natural to me as this was a way to combine 2 things that I love: cooking and photography. Through extensive research and hours of hands on practice, I was able to sharpen my skills and deliver amazing photos. My goal is to create good “vibes” or moods for the viewer through my images, and make the food look as drool worthy as possible of course!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely start with a cute coffee shop; Atlanta has a lot of great ones. My favorite right now is Cubanos ATL in Sandy Springs. Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a lot. Places for fun activities like The 3rd Spot, or Puttshack would also be on the list. I like to learn while having fun so a pasta making class, Sip and Scratch Dj class, etc would definitely be on the itinerary. I would finish off with a nice dinner or rooftop bar at places like Reverence or St. Julep.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to God first and foremost for giving me these talents to share with the world. I would also like to dedicate this to the amazing photographers in the Atlanta area and all over the world. I have endless inspiration on the daily from others in the industry and they have welcomed me with open arms.
