We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandee Daniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
While pursuing my Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, I became more aware of the gaps in human connection within the Black community. I wanted to create a platform that could also serve as a safe space for bringing balance to peoples lives. If I could, in any way, tactfully shed light on certain taboo topics, I knew there would be a potential window of opportunity to further conversations that could build upon peace & healing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By day, I’m a Utilization Review Clinician for an Eating Disorder facility. I have the pleasure of working with a team of healthcare professionals who care for and provide psychoeducation to patients with disordered eating behaviors. One of the most rewarding duties in my role is advocating to insurance companies, so patients are able to seek the treatment they need before re-integrating a healthier version of themselves back into the community.

Working in the mental health field was super challenging at first because there was such a learning curve, but I knew wanted to do more professionally. When Jett called me one day after giving my information to a CEO of a company who was looking for a Utilization Reviewer, it couldn’t have been anyone else, but God. No experience, no Licensure, no Nursing Degree, and no Master’s degree at that time….I landed the job in 2 days.

I’ve learned to trust God more through the this thing we call “life”. Things that I THOUGHT were happening at random, turned out to be God connecting the dots behind the scenes.

Being able to advocate for those in need not only aligns with my belief in how the kingdom of God should show up in the earth, but it directly correlates to the message of my brand: Helping others bring balance to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being that all 3 of my best friends are introverts and I’m an extrovert/ambivert, I’d try to meet halfway.

Of course food and music is at the top of the list! The first night I would cook their favorite dish, pop open a glass of red wine, and have a girls night in listening to music while catching up! Depending on the season, we’d either go to an indoor or outdoor concert (I love lawn seats)! Missing a my seum photo-ops isn’t an option so I’d plan out a content day followed by dinner on me! If it’s a Saturday we’d slide through a real chill social function….rooftop/patio dinners and functions are always the move.

Knowing me, even though they came in town, I’d probably drive to Charlotte or Wilmington beach just to have a car concert!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two inidividuals that I MUST acknowledge. The first, would absolutely have to be Jett Okoye, LCSW, Intergrative Health Coach. This woman helped me get my life on track! If it wasn’t for Jett, I wouldn’t have gone back to school or started a business. I can’t put into words the impact she had on me & how she pushed me to become more of who I was called to be. She dropped so many gems each time we talked that I still think about to this day.

The second person iis Jim Havercamp over at Shadowbox Studios. Jim heard what my vision and agreed jumped on board as my videographer and editor, while allowing me to rent his studio space. He has seriously been a blessing to me at one of the lowest times of my life & I’m so happy to be connected to him!
