We had the good fortune of connecting with BNYCE (Gregory Bernard) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi BNYCE, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to honestly build a brand that would be recognized in partnership with my music since it’s what inspired the brand itself. I also wanted to build a legacy that could be passed on to my children after I’m gone.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other artists is that I’m eclectic. I not only am inspired by all genres of music , From rock to country to blues to hiphop but it all comes out in some form of my music. I am most proud about where I am today looking at how it started I was recording music in my dining room with the microphone attached to a chandelier lol and the quality wasn’t all that great, to getting connected with a great engineer and producer by the name of TIS (@tis113) and elevating my music to the next level . There were times where I honestly didn’t think I was going anywhere with it and at times I wanted to quit. During those times my daughter Carrington inspired me to continue. Then fast forward some years later In highschool I came into contact with my longtime friend Precieux J. Fils-Aime Aka J-hustle (@ jhustleakaimreddi) who saw something in me musically and started to help me to make money on the streets hustling cds and dvds so that I could fund my music .. he started paying for my studio time and helping me to get more professional music. He’s been a big part in the reason I got into music in the first place and believed in me from day one.
Throughout the time since then I’ve come across people who believed in me as an adult in music as well. People like Ojeda Doc ,Jabba Ranks , and Irene Bellz who gave me a platform to share my music with a concert series they would put on .. i started off as opening acts for the bigger artists and over time worked my way to becoming a headliner for those shows. None of this was easy or just handed to me I had to earn it. But also having support from a few Djs. Including DJ Master Rachel’s , DJ New era ,DJ hunndunn and Boobee just to name a few that put me in rotation in numerous clubs around the city and allowed me to gain more notoriety . From there along with my fiance coming to my shows and supporting my dream being my camera women and honestly my biggest supporter and my best friend I was able to propel to bigger heights
Along with creating my own clothing line BNYCE APPAREL which is currently doing well . As I continued to progress I caught the eye of a well established independent artist that’s signed to TCE the label. Which is Lil Scrappys artist DEDAPROBLEM connecting with him has put me in rooms with people artists producers engineers. And even tv producers that I could only dream to be in a room with .. and this has essentially taken my career to even higher areas, with regards to not only music. But building my brand as well
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first we have to get a good slice of pizza so we have to hit Fellinis and also have to get som great Jamaican food so we have to hit my spot Kingstons on candler road
Then Tuesday we would have to go to backstage in college park to get some two dollar tacos and watch a dope comedy show that my boy DJ MASTER RACHELS (@djmasterrachels) hosts with my boy Deanthony turner(@THEDEANTHONYTURNER) and my homegirl Janet (@JANETDOLLARCOMEDY)
On Thursday AND FRIDAY we hittin up my boy BOOBEE (@boobee6) spot BLEU WHISKEY (@bleuwhiskylounge). It’s a vibe with rnb and slow jam Thursdays and on Fridays we turn allll the way up
Saturday we HAVE to go to my boy Cruz (@d.cruzzzzzz) spot MONACO (@ monacoatl)
Sunday probably just throw something on the grill and relax
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to God who is the head of my life. And the Head of my household And shout out to my fiancé Tiffany Cosby for all of the support Financially , emotionally and spiritually During my Journey to making my dreams come true
My Daughter Carrington for being an inspiration and believing in me My two boys Adonis and Jalen for being so loving and a joy to me
Everyone who has supported me over the years whether it’s coming to a show. Or buying merch it means the world to me that you all support me and it doesn’t go unnoticed
